1st Attempt 60 mile Elan Valley loop

Got out on the bike, the weather was superb, three consecutive days of sunshine in Wales
A few lessons learnt
1. dont leave your shoes outside your tent/bag when they are wet from previous days swamp crossing and the temperature dips below minus silly at 350meters.
2. when the OS map shows only a telephone box, then there really is no pub offering hot lunches, no matter how hard you convince yourself otherwise.
3. no need to carry spare food/water, Wales isnt so big and the local water boils just fine.
4. dont go crazy buying too much kit, simple dry bags, an old windsock and other straps and bags combined with a cheap carrier work just fine, but I do recommend sealskinz socks or similar, my shoes didnt dry out the whole time.

Conclusion- a great way to spend a weekend, 60 miles some of it through knee deep snow, hardly saw anyone else, already planning the next excursion.
Cheers
