I fitted a star nut into the bottom of the steerer which this 3mm thick alloy T bracket bolts to, it keeps the bag away from the frame.


The T bracket isn't my best piece of work but I broke the last blade on my decent hacksaw so had to finish the job with a junior hacksaw, I might re make it.
Weighs in at 130g inc. the T bracket and bolt but not the star nut.

Nice idea but can I be the first to wager that the "T" piece cuts through the webbing?

I thought of that, the sharp edges have been filed to curves but i'll keep an eye on it. Another option would be to bend the end up but I have a feeling the alloy would crack.

Nice work. Can you not put a rubber gasket over the edge of the T bar?

Finished those cushions yet?

A few wraps of gaffer tape, amalgamating tape or old inner tubes on the T should save the strapping?

I was thinking a bit about what flatfishy says whilst at work and decided to give it a wee bend after all, if it cracked I could just make another. It didn't crack and giving it a soft cover of some sort is a good idea. It still keeps the bag pushed out but gives much shallower angles for the webbing to negotiate.

certainly looks solid enough, my one suggestion might be to add some kind of semi-compressable or adjustable spacers at the top to reduce the 'hanging' distance at the top of the dry bag. should improve stability, if you find that's an issue. You can see them on the Revelate sweet roll in some of these photos especially the last one;

Hi tanglefist, in the picture the dry bag is not as full as it will be in use, there is still a gap when it's packed full but the harness does pull the bag tight so there is very little movement, nothing I would worry about. I have also wrapped a bit of old inner tube around the t bar for added piece of mind.
