Route suggestions - North Lakes or Scottish Borders

Post by zigrat »

Looking for a roughly 100 mile circular loop inc an overnight bivvy from either Moffat or Keswick.
Any ideas ? Keen for routes that allow re-supply and a beer at night

Not done it and the start of day two would be a bit contrived/convoluted but a suggestion from Moffat that might inspire you.
Follow the Southern Upland Way to The Three Bretheren then drop down to Selkirk (done most of that bit)for beer/supplies, join the Borders Abbeys Way towards Hawick looking for a bivi spot. Next morning continue to Hawick. Now the not so easy bit as there is no obvious direct route but head West to Craik and follow the roman road to Eskdalemuir through Craik and Eskdalemuir Forests. Head back to Moffat.

Alans not joking about 'quality bike-a-hike'

You'll need a bit of this on more than one occasion

Having said that, give me a shout if you fancy a fast tour of the route (a sub 40 hour time might be a bit too much for me)
