Mary bars with bar ends?

Post by Dan_K »

I've got ergon gp2 grips and I love them but I'm tempted to get some Mary or Jones bars. Are the bar ends overkill on these types of bars and will I look like more of a muppet than usual?
Would I also need a longer stem?

I've found a longer stem isn't required for Mary bars but is for Jones bars.

IMO Ergons look a little odd no matter what they're fitted to ... so just crack on, it'll not matter ;)

I've yet to ride a long way on my Jones bars, but initial impressions are that I'm OK with the same length stem I had previously (90mm). My position is a bit more upright, but I think this is A Good Thing for long rides. I'm not flexible enough to adopt an XC racing position for 10+ hours anymore :?

I think the back sweep on either bars would make bar ends look a bit odd, and imo, probably not really necessary.

I have some black 25.4mm diameter Mary's if you're interested?
I know they're cheap from On-one anyway, but I could send them over to you for a couple of quid plus postage.

Cheers Ian, that would be good. Shame I hadn't thought about this sooner as Beth posted my Tiger today. Let me know how much you want and I'll PayPal you.

Edit: Thanks Stu too. Basically, I'll look like a muppet anyway so just get on with it eh?!

Something to consider is that because of the sweep of the bars the bar ends will stick out and may act like hooks catching on trailside obstacles.

Yeah I think you're right Ray. I'll try them with normal grips first and then get some normal ergon grips if I get on with the position.
