Any ideas ? ... I'm looking for something to stick in my pocket/pack that I can throw on over the top of whatever I'm wearing if it starts to get a bit fresh. Weight and pack size are important but so is cost ... something like Montane Featherlites would be good but they seem a tad expensive.

I don't need anything waterproof just an extra layer to keep the worst off.

The lightest I found are some Peter Storm "waterproof" trousers from 30 years ago (when I were a lad). 100grams.

However they are not windproof or waterproof and are a nasty shade of blue (and 3 inches too short).

If value for money and windproof is needed I would go for Montane Featherlight stuff. Not waterproof though.

another vote for the featherlites.. i didn't realise they had gotten so expensive - i picked mine up in tiso's last year on offer for £25 and mainly use them as overtroos for the work commute, but would def take them on an overnight trip

You can get the whole over-suit for about £15 I think. They are possibly more waterproof than you're going for though. The cut is baggy, though.

I've considered Tyvec before ... I recckon a pair of Tyvec overboots would make great camp shoes, you could even glue a neoprene sole on.

Hopefully I'm sorted. Did find some Montane Litespeed H2O pants on-line for £38, fully waterproof and very light. Very nearly bought them but spotted some Dare2Be pants reduced from £25 to £6 which my inner tight b'stard couldn't resist ... could be rubbish but worth a punt at that price

It was too late for the Ron Hills but my Dare2b trousers landed and in general they're okay. They're lightly elasticated around the ankles, calf length zips and weigh 207g. The only odd thing was the elastication around the waist. Besides the usual sewn in elastic, they had a shockcord drawstring which was way too short/strong. These things are sized as S and say they fit up to 33" waist, I've a 30" waist and with the drawcord in place they were crippling ... nowt a pair of scissors didn't sort out.

Wow, waterproof + weigh about the same as Montane Atomics + 70 quid cheaper = Bargain!

Righto, here's the first picture of a hastily butchered tyvek overall cut about 2 inches below the zip and 2 inches above the crotch.


Weight is 104 grams but if I took another inch off the bottom it would drop below the 100g mark.
I could take the hood off too but because it's such thin material it would sit under a helmet in biblical rain which seemed to be quite common over the last 12 months or so.

Pack size is good too.



I'm hopefully sloping off for a ride in the morning and it's meant to rain so I'll take it instead of my E-vent expensiveness and report back hopefully tomorrow evening.

I'd shorten it ... 'cos it looks like you've got a mini skirt on that you'll forever be trying to pull down over your arse

Can't shorten it too much or it will interfere withe the zip.
