More Garmin help required, please.

I downloaded a map from the talkytoaster website (great link Ming) and sat it on my Macs desktop. I then copied it onto a micro sd card but no maps show up on the gps with the card inserted.

If I go into 'map set up' on the Garmin it only shows an International Marine Point Base Map and nothing else, so it's like the gps isn't seeing the card. I've another sd card with UK Topo maps on which works fine.

I'm at a bit of a loss but I'm wondering whether the new map needs re-naming (or something), at present it's called FAMILY_800.gmap The map's also in Garmin Map Manager ... it tells me it's Garmin Compatible.

Any ideas?

On mine the map needs to be in a folder on the sd card named Garmin. The map file needs to be called gmapsupp.img for the device to recognise it.

Cheers Dan ... renamed it but still no joy. I'll keep playing about.

Are there any other img files on the card?

No, that's the only thing on it.

Hmmm. I've got the Legend HCX so it should work almost identically to yours.
I've put the sd card onto my mac and all that I have on it is a folder named "garmin" containing a file named gmapsupp.img
I then choose the maps I want i to display in the map menu in setup by ticking the boxes for whichever countries.

The only other thing I can think of is that it's the SD card itself. Garmin don't work with SanDisk Ultra II cards and the earlier ones had a problem with larger SD cards, although I have an 8gb card in mine without problems.
What card are you using?
Have you tried replacing the map img on your card that works?

I'm running the talkytoater maps on an Etrex 20. Like Dan_K I have a file that is called GMAPSUPP which is a disc image file (whatever that is). I've got it stored on the onboard storage of the unit in the folder called garmin. I can't really remember the process of installing, which isn't much help.
