A couple of new things from deep within the BB barn.

First is a stove/cooking set-up for the ever popular AlpKit Mytimug. Lots of folk use them so I thought I'd do something for them. The stove is sized/jetted to work with the mug so there's very little flame overspill. It's also lower and lighter than a 22g and it blooms faster too (about 15 secs from cold). The 'kit' will also contain a 0.2mm alloy windshied and a cozy.



I've had a good think about cozy's and while they certainly work they aren't always the easiest things to use. It can be quite fiddly to get a hot pot in there and often you've got to remove part of the cozy to see how your tea's going on ... I thought I'd try and make it a little simpler by using a semi 'wrap round' design with a hinged lid and verlcro tabs to keep it all together.



Should keep your food cooking fuel free for 25 - 30 minutes.



Next up is a dual fuel 'flip' stove. This is a final prototype, the legs on 'production' ones will be much nicer. Anyway, one way up it's a meths stove.



The other way up it's a solid fuel stove ... which lends itself to simmering much better than meths does.

what size bottle is that? any rough calculation how many ml of water that amount of fuel would boil in decent conditions? (trying to compare ish to gas)

The bottle for this one is 100ml. You should be able to boil half a litre with 15ml - 20ml of fuel. The cozy really helps here if you're cooking something that requires simmering ... boil your water with rice, pasta, whatever. Once it's reached a boil, stick the pot in the cozy and it'll continue to cook without using anymore fuel. Obviously you could do this with a gas stove too.

I have now ... it's .3mm bestest aluminium, conical and weighs 15g. A few grams could be saved by using .2mm but it wouldn't be quite as robust.

Stu, when you cook with a cosy do you bring everything to the boil then let it rest or just boil the water and add the ingredients? I'm assuming you heat everything first.

Yeah, for something like pasta or rice, boil the water and the food before sticking it in the cosy ... it's surprising how quickly it'll cook. I might do some tests later this week to measure the water temp at various time intervals with a cosy*.

You could do some graphs and clever maths to work out efficiency with and without the cosy if you wanted ;-)

not looked back since I made a cosy and makes for pretty versatile cooking on a single burner. In answer to Ray's question I find I can cook coucous by just adding the boiling water and it keep really hot while I heat the 'main course'. Great for porridge in the morning as you can leave it to cook while getting packed up.
Been thinking of getting a food dehydrator and packing up each homemade meal in a 'pour and store' ready to go straight into a cosy just adding hot water. Will experiment more.

I've quite a few new bits to add to the site* ... At the moment they include the following but I'll also add windshields to the list:

The Mytimug kit - stove, cosy, windshield, etc.

The above are pretty much ready to go but waiting in the wings are, tarp, groundsheet and poles.

I don't think my fingers or hands work well enough these days to be splicing 1.5mm line

I suppose I could ... but it's much easier to just say. Boiling water (in a Ti pot with a close fitting lid) placed outside for 10 minutes had reduced in temp to 60 degrees. Boiling water (in the same mug and placed in the same outside) but snuggled up in a cosy, dropped to 80 degrees after 10 minutes. :)

If a numpty like me can do Zing It (1.8 iirc) I'd have thought it'd be a breeze for a craftsman of your calibre 8-)
