Painting/Spraying Forks

I have a set of Surly Ogre rigid forks for the Inbred 29er that unfortunately don't match very well colour wise (sand frame and the kind of olive green forks) and I'd like to paint them up black so the don't look quite so out of place. What's the best way to do it? I don't really want to bother sending them off to get them shot blasted and powder coated as that would most likely cost a bit much. Am I best off spraying them? Would rattle can paint scratch and rub off very easily? Or two pack paint with a brush? Any input would be great. :)
When the bike is finished it will coincidentally look nigh on identical to the second Inbred on this thread (right down to the frame size.. :) :) ):
