I have a set of Surly Ogre rigid forks for the Inbred 29er that unfortunately don't match very well colour wise (sand frame and the kind of olive green forks) and I'd like to paint them up black so the don't look quite so out of place. What's the best way to do it? I don't really want to bother sending them off to get them shot blasted and powder coated as that would most likely cost a bit much. Am I best off spraying them? Would rattle can paint scratch and rub off very easily? Or two pack paint with a brush? Any input would be great. :)

2 pack's pretty nasty stuff Jack, I'd steer clear. There's no reason why you can't do a good job with spray cans as long as you take your time. There's no substitute for preperation time, rub down between coats and finish off with a couple of clear coats. If you want a decent finish you'll have to wait until things warm up a little though ... unless you can get away with spraying in the house.

A proper sand and clean before starting. Stand the cans in warm water for 10 minutes before using them and don't forget to give 'em a proper good shake too.

3 coats of undercoat.
3 top coats.
2 clear coats.
Finish with rubbing compound and then polish.

Might actually be cheaper to give the local powdercoaters £25
