Techy Q - BB30

Post by FLV »

Does anyone have much experience of the BB30 system?

Baiscally my shiney new frame is on its way in about a month.

It has a BB30, 73mm Shell width.
I have a shimano chainset, which I'd rather not change but I dont want to bodge it together.

As far as I can tell bb30 adaptors are available for 68mm shells, inteded for road bikes.

Does anyone make a good system for this problem or am I doomed to faff about for months before finally having to buy a proper BB30 crank.

Whats the component parts of a bb30 anyway?

I've got bb30 on my roadbike, its 105 but with FSA cranks. It creaked like a bugger once you got 20 odd miles into a ride. I've stripped it and slapped grease on the bearings and crank axle which improved matters a lot. I have a PF30 on my Spearfish frame which came installed. I greased that from the off and its never been a problem.

I've seen the plastic cups that slot into the bb30 bearigs but they look a bit of a bodge. This looks a better solution:
