What do the tarp dwellers use to keep the bugs and midges off of them? Mosquito nets? Head nets? Chemical sprays? Or any other ideas??
Just had my bubble burst in the tent thread for the pack size of the robens so i am now looking at other angles/options.

For me it's either a bivvy bag with built in head net or a full net inner under the tarp. I've tried sleeping with a normal head net on and it's not really much fun

I'm looking into making something that hangs down from under the tarp to cover the top half of you and tuck around and under the bivi bag.
I did once sleep with a headnet on and the bivi bag tightened up tight so just my face showed. I woke up in a state of claustrophobia after having turned over in the bag somehow. I had to forcibly calm myself so I could undo the pull chords and release myself.
Outside of the tarp it's headnet and full clothing inc. gloves in Scotland, repellants don't seem to work much that I can see.

If midges are going to be an issue then you'll be looking at a tent/tarptent.

Bivi options are just miserable. Been there and i'm itching now just thinking about it. At least a tent allows you to get redressed pack up a lot of your stuff up and minimise the time they can attack you.

Having said that, the only times they have been an issue is where i've picked a poor bivi spot. Pick somethere with a breeze or where its dry and most of the time you'll be fine.

Just got my self a life system bug net, I will try that for now to see how it goes .

Has anybody successfully modified an Alpkit Hunka to have a fitted headset?

I've thought about this but I roll over in the night and take the bivi bag with me sometimes. I thought of an elasticated hem on the net that goes around the bag, but there'd be gaps. How clever are the Welsh and English midges at finding the gaps, I wonder?
