Hi, does any one have experience or knowledge of somewhere West Cumbria ISH that would be suitable for a 8 year old to ride around with myself of course and a nice bivvy spot for the night preferably near a cafe for special breakfast etc.
Little fella wants to come along I have a spare bivvy bag for him and I got him a decent sleeping bag from the rock and run sale too. Have a trailstar copy tarp so plenty of coverage just need a leisurely route with good spot to make.camp.for the night and enjoy the outdoors. I'll just rucksack the gear he can't carry but should be able to stick a bar bag on his bike with some light stuff in

Bivi spots? Surprisingly not much big woodland in that area but various copses dotted along those routes. Plenty of caffs in Workington, Whitehaven, Cockermouth, Egremont etc.

Sorry quimarche, I hit submit before your more comprehensive post popped up! It's a very interesting area anyway - 8yr-old would find plenty to see (although admittedly there aren't many "attractions" - the story of the rum trade perhaps
https://www.rumstory.co.uk/. Dunno if you get free samples). Oh, I see you're based in Cumbria so we're probably teaching granny to suck eggs here....
(PS. Re bivi spots, I can PM you the locations of a disused hen-house, a derelict caravan, and a cosy barn, if they're any use

)

If it's not too late, how about a ride up the forest path in Ennerdale?

Black Sail hostel isn't open til mid-March but would make for a proper adventure for a young 'un.
