Scottish End to End, new 470 mile route.

Post by Ray Young »

Hi all, I have just been watching "The Adventure Show", a Scottish programme about outdoor adventures mainly concentrating on outdoor competitive type stuff in Scotland. At the end of the show Cameron McNeish (presenter) mentioned his new long distance walking route, "The Scottish End to End". It is 470 miles long starting at Kirk Yetholm and ending at Cape Wrath (the length of Scotland) and designed to link up diverse types of countryside and historical sites. The reason I mention this is that cyclists in Scotland have the same access rights as walkers do so no reason for us not to do it. I shall be looking into this this further.

Hi Ray, funny you should mention.... I was listening to this on a podcast in the tent last night and thought it sounded like a really good idea.... probably better on a bike given the scale of the undertaking. Do you think it would be largely rideable? The access north of the border is the way to go if everyone understands the personal responsibility side of it.
Lot's of food for thought on the end to end route.

That sounds interesting alright. Any details on the route at all or do we have to buy the book?

I can't find a route map yet but apparently he follows some already existing long distance paths. The book of the route has been published already, RRP £20. I'm going to see if Edinburgh library has a copy or will just check out a copy in a shop for the moment. BBC Scotland are supposed to be showing two, one hour documentaries about the route around christmas time. Estimated walking time is 4-6 weeks.

Mentioned in TGO a couple of months ago. Does sound like much is a link of existing LDP.
