Right sacking em off I really like them as they are fast rolling on tarmac gravel and the like and even good in mud but the bloody beads keep wearing and splitting causing leaks just when u don't want em. So which tyre can I replace the rear with that doesn't cost an arm n legs ( maxxis ions ) that rolls well and has the protection side walls and tubeless?? 2.3 or 2.4

Bontrager XR 1 or 2 depending on tread depth preference. A doddle to set up tubeless too, ~£40, so not overly expensive for the quality of tyre

Vittoria seem to have tough casings, dirt cheap at PX at the mo.

Not that Conti protection have ever been a problem for me.

Conti are rubbish, just side about on wet. Im just boaring and like maxis

Mike, having blown out 2 race kings where the sidewall came unraveled from the bead I took a gamble and bought the newer 2018 version with improved sidewalls.
So far so good....

+1 for the Bontrager tyres.

XR1 is fine if it's very dry but the XR2 also rolls well - bigger number = heftier tread. Bonty have a few ranges, XR, SE & G in increasing levels of toughness. For most purposes the XR range is good enough (SE = Super Enduro (natch) and G is Downhill). In the XR range there's also the Team Issue which are a bit lighter but not quite as robust.

I used the XR1 on the back of the Solaris last year on the HT550, a dry year but not as dry as this, an XR2 on the front.

They go up tubeless really easily - I mounted up an XR2 last week on a Hope rim with a track pump, no harder work than inflating a tube.

Downside? As yet they don't do the lighter treads in anything bigger than 2.35" for 29ers

If i recall correctly you can just stuff them with grass and carry on?
