.. water transfer pump. I've just checked the spring at the Towers again this afternoon and it is no longer feeding the water storage header tank*, so what water we have in the tank is it. Long range forecast isn't showing any rain, so it looks like I'll be stealing it from the river ... yes stealing. I may own the river but her majesty owns the water in it. I reckon she'll not miss a bit.

I did the welsh 3000s last weekend. Lots of dry streams, struggled with hydration (or weight of carrying water)

One of the few negatives to having a private water supply.

It's been about five years since we last ran out, similar weather to this but there were cows in the field with the spring and collecting tank and the buggers supped us dry! Mind you the grass looked like hay stood in the field so it must have been like a diet of cream crackers

Our lawn is looking a bit crispy. Might have to get the sprinkler out.

What sort of pump?
If I was thinking of doing the same but the muddy ditch at the bottom of the garden does not have any depth but does keep flowing.
So far looked at the ScrewFix Titan pumps and the Hozlok submersible but with nothing to submerse them in its a problem.
The ideal spot has Hornets next to it so the idea of getting in a digging a hole is a bit daunting.
Its also a 2 meter rise and 16 meter distance to pump water over and the drop off curve for pump efficiency is quite dramatic.
Buckets may be the answer.

Petrol driven Michael. They're usually quite happy to pump water that's not entirely clean. Even the smaller ones will pump a head of 30m or so.

Is disappointed.

I'd hoped for some sort of weapon of mass (selective) destruction.

I have a 'dirty water' pump from Screwfix, think its a titan job. It pumps water from the bottom of my garden out into the drain, we have a problem with flooding (when it rains a lot, which its not at the moment clearly!)

Pumps water very effectively though a 1 inch diameter pipe, it's very impressive how much water it can get though. Just runs off the mains

I dug a hole and dropped a plastic box with lots of holes drilled into it and then dropped the pump into that. It'll pump water out with a couple of inches depth, it needs more depth for the float switch but there are ways to bodge that.

"Reg does" - Sort of a renting arrangement really - they get it back after I've used it, with a few scuffs and marks on it .

Stand by for the new Air Board, and the associated charging structure. Pay Per Sniff/Gulp.....

Its been a funny year weather wise. March, April our pond over flowing, however now no water just cracking mud, sludge.i dug a hole in it yesterday and the insects and birds were on it straight away as it drew in water from the surroundings

Does the float switch just need to be vertical or does it need water?

Only need water to turn on and off. You can position it in the position you want and then just use a mains switch to turn it on and off. The float switch is basically a hollow box with a ball that moves inside it
