Hi looking for some thoughts on Mug size
I'm looking at getting a Ti mug but there seems to be a plethora of sizes
450ml, 600ml, 700ml etc

Eating wise, normally for cooking I have Cous cous, with a tin of tuna added, such like with the emphasis on simple but tasty

Quite like the idea of an Evernew 700ml pasta pot but not sure it might be too big
Although they do have other nice features like measurement scales and insulated handles
If going smaller then 450ml, does it give you enough volume? Needs to have a lid

What sizes do you use, how do you rate it and does it offer flexibility?

I have a Snow Peak ti-mini solo combo. a 300ml and 800ml combo that lets you have a cuppa and a meal at the same time. Not the lightest, but versatile. The 800ml mug is great for packet meals and the like and allow you to stir them without spilling.

I might be able to get away with something smaller but imagine the PITA factor would increase signficantly trying to squeeze stuff into a smaller volume. Given it's Ti the weight penalty between the different sizes is insignificant, IMO. Admittedly there's a bit more bulk but I don't mind that.

The Mug is sized to take a gas canister and so with a Ti stove and bits I easily carry a full brew kit (ex.milk) in one.

THey're also only £25 which seems cheap compared to some e.g. MSR Titan Kettle. I ddi pick up a Titan on the cheap a while ago but haven't used it yet as for solo trips the Mug is fine.

I reckon there's a few considerations ... what type/size of cooker do you use? The wider the pot the less chance you've got of wasting heat up the sides. How much room have you got to pack it? A wider but shorter pot is usually harder to find space for.

Most 450ml mugs are the same size. You can brew up and heat enough water for a dehydrated meal but that's about it. They also require a small stove, unless you're happy to waste fuel. Also don't come with lids, so you'll have to knock one up.

Something between 600ml and 850ml should work well for heating and eating. A lot of solo pots tend to be quite tall and narrow which isn't great for heating. Although I haven't used one, I think something like an Evernew CA-251 .6l pot would be ideal ... nice and wide and comes with a lid, it also weighs next to nothing.

With regard to quality Evernew and Snow Peak are about the best I've seen but obviously they tend to be more expensive

The plan stove wise is to get a 22g meths stove, which will replace my petrol rocket that I currently use. The petrol blasts out the heat and although small (by normal stove standards) is heavy as its made of brass
Fuel wise the petrol probably uses more than I would in meths so would save both in stove and fuel weight

The mug I get would need to be dual purpose for both stoves. If the diameter is large enough it will fit over the rocket (about 95mm) and save space on current pot I carry. In lightwieght mode, the plan is to have stove and meths all fitting inside. Maybe a matching cup if it would fit together without taking space.

It may be foolish but I would rather shell out for the right size/shape & quality, instead of having to compromise all the time

Titan kettle and Titan cup fit well.
I can fit the stove, windshield, pot scourer, lighter, a few sachets of coffee and depending on the size of bottle, some meths all into this cook kit without too much trouble.
