I was considering buying a down jacket. in particular this one that looks reasonable below;
My question.... Should i get one of these as I am not sure how many people carry a dull down jacket on autumn winter bike packing. I have an alpkit filoment jacket, although i think thats its more suited to spring/summer nights.
any advice would be really helpful.

I've used an Alpkit Filo jacket in Rovaniemi (Lapland or northern Finland) in February at -15C without problem so not sure why you think it's a summer jacket.

I have my lightweight full down jacket with me for an evening/night no matter what time of year. It's nothing fancy, I think an older version of this
https://www.trespass.com/whitman-mens-down-jacket, but has done the job for me so far for night photography too.
I also have a snugpak softie, but don't usually use that with the bike as it's much bulkier.

I'm sure it's a decent / warm jacket but I'm surprised that (a) it only contains 250g of down and (b) considering the weight of fill, the fact it weighs over 700g. That leads me to think 'packability' may be its downfall.

It's not just down Stu,
"250g PrimaLoft GOLD Insulation Down Blend Fill - Consisting of 70% 90/10 high quality water resistant goose down at 750+ fill, blended with 30% PrimaLoft synthetic fill fibres. "
Can't see a temp rating.

Sorry Bob, I missed that. However, noe I'm properly confused ... does that mean there's a total of 250g of insulation or does the 250g relate to the weight / thickness / spec of the Primaloft?
Actually after reading it again, I'm going for 250g meaning total insulation which means only 175g of down in there.

I think it's the total insulation so 75% of 250g is down

Sorry, thought it was 70% when I was doing my calculations ... so, if there's 75% down that means 187.5g of the fluffy stuff.

My mistake Stu, it is 70% not 75% so you were right first time
