Apparently they did a Fugio before (?) that was a CX bike. It's now a 650b (50mm tyre) do it all drop bar.
Reynolds 725, carbon fork, internal routing for Di2 and dynamo hub.

The previous Fugio was a Reynolds 853 steel cross/road bike. That was nice.

The new Fugio would be the bike I would pick if I could choose any from the Genesis 2018 range. (Well maybe a titanium Tarn).

My friend Simon Aske makes steel frames and his latest creation is a very similar beast to the new Fugio, except he uses Reynolds 853 and Columbus tubing.

Hopefully my next bike, if I can save up enough pennies...

Off road, no. I guess it makes it more usable as a mile muncher on road? Having said that 34/32 isn't that off road friendly either when it gets steep and your fully loaded.

Very true. The tyre clearance and gearing seem to send out a mixed message - best of both worlds or a poor compromise?

725 would be nice, it says

Genesis MjÖlnir Seamless Double-Butted Cromoly

in the blurb. It's probably the same as Reynolds 520 but 11.2 kg Generic Cro-mo and 105 road components for two grand.....

Arkose LTD with Di2 for £250 quid less would get my money, or save up and get a Stoater, etc if Steel was the material of choice.

A quick search on the net suggests that Shimano 11 speed CX chainsets are Ultegra and a road front mech won't shift on a mtb ratio. So it's a cost thing coupled with the limitations of road STI's.

Is the Genesis website substandard at present?
When I open it there is a large Genesis logo over the screen and none of the links work.

I had the same problem. Tried it with Chrome and it all works as it should. I guess someone should tell Genesis. Although pretty poor that they didn't test their new site thoroughly enough.

I wonder why that isn't running SRAM Apex or Rival, 1x (which would allow for sensible ratios for what the rest of the bike is capable of).

As it stands there's no way I'd recommend that to anybody, but with a 1x setup and low gears you'd struggle to get me to shut up about it.

Come to think of it, what the hell are Shimano playing at? I've just had to switch my Straggler to SRAM as Shimano don't even make a competing product!

As with all bikes of this type it's all jack of all trades master of none. My stoater was the same lovely as it was it was compromised on and off road. It looks like an expensive not quite as good vagabond

Anyone have any info on, or links to, the properties of the various steels used in bicycle frames? For a layman reader obviously!

I appreciate that many other factors will make a difference too - heat treating, shape, thickness etc

Just interested to learn a bit more. My Solaris has an 853 front triangle, so what? My El Mariachi is make of Sanko Chromoly Kung Fu, how does that compare? My Brompton weights a ton!

I was always impressed that On-One were able to source DN6 steel for their frames ... spooky given that was their postcode

The just used the local scaffolding suppliers :) that said I've had and inbred a 456 and a pompino over the years

I love my Inbred. It's the bike I've done most miles on and had most 'adventurers' ... it's much greater than the sum of its parts and just works.

I've the Pompetamine frame which is basically the Pompino frame with disk brake mounts. Originally I thought it was a bit "dead" but since converting it to single speed it was probably the Alfine hub causing that as it does feel quite spritely now, certainly in comparison to the frame of the Genesis Croix de Fer (2016 model).

I'd like to compare it to something like the Cotic RoadRat or Escapade frames

Yeah the pomp was great I had it ss and fixed but fixed offroad was too much for me lol

I've had surly cross-check and karate monkey and they use made up name tubing but if I'm honest I prefered the on ones
