Inspire me with your freezer bag recipies.

Post by Bearbonesnorm »

For someone who spends as much time making stoves as I do, it's a little strange that I can only be bothered to *cook about 50% of the time. I'm really not a great fan of dehydrated meals or super noodles, so please share your one pot or freezer bag delights and inspire me ;)

Being an American site, it uses a lot of US ingredients (although i'm sure you can find a substitute over here).

A handful of porridge oats, tablespoon of milk powder (awful I know..), a teaspoon of brown sugar and some raisins or walnuts makes a pretty good breakfast. Just add boiling water and leave for a couple of minutes.. :) Rather similar to those sachets or pots you can buy, but they never seem to be large enough.. And you get walnuts!

I have made a custard based drink once, it wasn't very good.
(I since learn't that it was because I put fruit in it it never thickened, like pineapple in jelly)

I tend to make my own dehydrated meals on the cheap but it will be a pot noodle emptied out of the plastic tub, smashed with a rolling pin and transferred to a plastic bag. Or those 9p Tesco noodles. (nothing but the best)

Vesta meals worked okay but took longer to thicken (poundland, £1 each, funny enough)

Oat-so-simples with powdered milk work well

Those one shot coffee sachets work with milk and sugar all in (I'm sure they taste like cack under normal day-today but cold and wet on a hill they are nectar)

Off course you'll need some buttered Bara Brith also ;) (a cake with an in built cup of tea)

Custard powder and then after it's made, drop in some dried banana chips/nuts/dried fruit/trail mix).

Cous cous with Salami/peperami.

Lately, i've discovered the joy of pitta bread which can be softened in soup or noodle or crammed with meat (no not like that, it doesn't get that lonely).
