I'm planning on getting a frame bag to complete my setup.
I've looked at the available options from the likes of Wildcat and buggybags.
I think I might have a go at making one myself but I'm having trouble finding suitable fabric, I'm particularily looking for ripstop, waterproof,
but can only find very lightweight clothing grades.

Can anyone point me in the right direction please ?

Hey Bigj, I don't know any UK based companies but http://www.extremtextil.de have lots of different materials and bits that might be of interest to you.

I would only build my own if I was doing it for the enjoyment and/or challenge. It's much cheaper buying one from someone if you haven't got the some of the gear already...the material, zip/s, velcro and thread might cost more than you think. You may know already that there's a few videos on Youtube showing how it's done.

Point North I knew about but the other website has exactly what I need.
I have a sewing machine and the knowledge to do this and the materials will cost about £50.
To have one made to the same spec will cost £120.
I'll be doing it for the fun of it too, but I may end up just buying one LOL

I made my own, in the most ghetto method possible. I spent nothing on any materials except thread. I used a discarded tent, cut out the (ripstop) groundsheet and used that as the material.

I had some long zips I cut off some scavenged luggage - they're not waterproof so I put large flaps over the top of them. The velcro came off some scavenged kit from work. It looks like a dog, especially when compared to the company-made or fine home-made ones, but works wells and seems to be waterproof, or at least rain proof.

I used http://www.pennineoutdoor.co.uk/ for buying cordura, they've got lots of different fabrics on there but none of that VX21 stuff
