Tested that there new 'Twin Cheeks' (or Professor Plums as Stu might call it) saddle.
Still seem to be able to apply 'bum/bike control' movements too.

Will continue with ongoing tweaking to get the tilt and spread at optimum settings.

A bonus is that it ('they'??) looks utterly ridiculous.

Is it me, i'd be afraid for you sliding off side-wayz when rail-in' dem rad berms, dude.

fitted a 10 speed chain on my road bike, I think it was due after 13 years.... added guaged it a few links longer than old one, as rear cog has 5 more teeth. spare links (x4) cone in tool kit,just in case with a quick link.

Finally got round to fitting the seat post I bought the other week, thus allowing me to get my old Spesh saddle on with an acceptable downwards slope.

Discovered with great relief and joy that the ominous crack-ping noise that appeared to emanate from my well aged Rohloff is in fact being made by a dodgy split link pinging off the sprocket

Installed a new chain. Got it on the third attempt with only minor swearing having remembered to take out a couple of links before starting. Put it on the wrong direction the first time, I didn’t notice it going under the front derailleur cage on the second attempt and the third time was fairly staight forward. I don’t think I’ll ever make a good mechanic though.

I use blackspite * and absolute B ones. all good. I don't notice the difference spinning, but when climbing I think they smooth it out and less likely to skid/slip when stomping on the pedals. (like when nowadays).

fitted new tyre on the road bike, it came with 23mm tyres for an 'audax' bike, but why.?
i change to 25mm, much improved comfort,
Gatorskin Dura skin K are deteriorating on the side walls after 12 or more years, by still good tread & few punctures.. .
so I replace them with Vittoria Zaffiros, I hope they fair better than Vauxhall Zafira which have an undocumented feature. A incendary setting with the heater. warm the whole care to 451f°
the Vit Zafiros were £10 (50% off) each, compared to conti Dura skin 28 at about £40.. Golly Gosh I count spend that dish.

wheel.
Question: if it out roundness between 3 adjacent spokes and 1-2mm dip inwards, is it likely going to repairable if I let off tension on the middles and less so on the adjacent spokes either side. side. You can feel a bump as you ride, its on the rear. well bump on rear both ways!

In a general way, use the plastic covered handle of your spoke key to tap each spoke in turn and listen for the note it makes, then move the one that is furthest away from the overall tension of the spokes by a quarter of a turn, either tighten or loosen depending on which way you want the rim to move. The overall wheel needs even tension to be as strong as it can be.

Ignore this is it's an obvious dent.

The cassette on the Spearfish was getting on a bit (just under 4000km apparently) and starting to jump under load. Managed to find a local bike shop with plenty of 11spd cassettes so it now has a shiny new 11-46T cassette The B-screw needed a little adjustment as the previous cassette was 11-42T.

Thanks for the advice. I thought the rid wasn't dented because the side walls are not bent or distorted.
tuning by sound, this I will struggle with. I can compare 2 notes next to another but comparing a few to a 'reference' note, so not a chance...
I've let out the tension on a few spoke and the 'flat' is less pronounced... it there is a little more sideways 'wobble'. I think this will be slow burn..
Ps mavic open cd 700rims for types 19-28mm tyres.
I tried 23mm tyres once, had a slashed front tyre after running over metal packing band. the tyre disappeared into the front rim. going round a roundabout on a metal rims. a bit clatter-ry and exciting, zero steering traction or front braking. I'm still here.

Is your knee scrapped or badly bruised? the former might heal quicker... in my case a few years ago it was the 1st thing to hit the deck and was a slow recovery, I had to keep it warm else it grumbled

you've effectively gone back to a 10 speed. front with break only.

To be honest the dogs done more damage on that front. He managed to split the end of his tail open and has left blood whacks around the place.

Fitted some new boots. They required the use of the tyre irons to get the last of the bead onto the rim, then went up with just the track pump. They look totally solid inside and out, no leaking sealant, so a short test ride tomorrow to work out pressures before the weekend bivvy.
