I managed to get some Tyvek from a friend in the village. It's got a strip of sticky tape down one edge though, what do you do to get rid of that...?Bearbonesnorm wrote: ↑Tue Sep 15, 2020 9:21 pmEither side up. If you wash Tyvek it'll soften it and make it feel less 'wax papery'.remind me again is there something about which side to use, when etc? I've just been using some old section of plastic sheet until now. I recall it's work washing the Tyvek (or both) to reduce inherent slippiness.

I'm assuming we only need enough width to cover where the mat is, rather than the whole groundsheet...?

That's what I do. Too much groundsheet can / may / perhaps result in it collecting water.I'm assuming we only need enough width to cover where the mat is, rather than the whole groundsheet...?

...and delivered a custom titanium Sonder drop bar gnarlier-than-a-Camino-not-as-gnarly-as-a-Broken-Road monster cross bike replete with Sonder's brand new (this is the first one they've ever fit I believe) 29er carbon fork with cage mounts. Boost spacing and enough clearance for 2.8" (the bottom photo is with the 2.6" from my Signal). Just taken it for a quick spin round my local loop and it's light years beyond my old Rose cross bike.

What size is it and how is the toe clearance, please?

It’s custom geometry, but it fits like a large frame Camino although this is a bit taller all over than the Camino, a fair bit less stand over but still enough for me. Toe clearance is fine. I run my cleats far back, I’m a size 9.5 and theres plenty of room up front.Cheeky Monkey wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 2:08 pm What size is it and how is the toe clearance, please?

I was fortunate to wangle a bit of a discount, so it worked out at roughly the same price as a stock Ti Camino, but they included a sun race cassette and tubeless set up too.

It looks like a great ‘value’ alternative to a Ti Fargo, which is top of my dream bike list. I need to save my pennies (for quite some time

I had been looking at the Ti Fargo and the Cutthroat and after a (very long) period of indecision seemed like the best value option and I’m glad I went for it.UnderTheRadars wrote: ↑Wed Sep 16, 2020 3:40 pm It looks like a great ‘value’ alternative to a Ti Fargo, which is top of my dream bike list. With a big box containing a Stooge Scrambler frame and fork and very nice it looks to . Only problem is all these new standards for a luddite to get his mind round .
It's going to be 27.5+ anyone running a Trail Boss 3.0 on the front and 2.8 Ranger on the rear ? thinking of using 35/40 mm internal rims .
Any other tyre option oppinions very welcome.

Blimey Kev, what brought that on! You going back to your inner-BMXer?
. It's certainly a rowdy-looking animal, even to someone like Reg who isn't into bikes (ahem). Too many mounts on it though
.

I quite fancied trying something different, strangely a feeling brought to a head by some very fine bottles of beer and an itchy trigger finger . the mounts are not a problem i have a welder

.. with some 2mm dyneema in garish yellow and another in subdued red from that nice Rose n Bob at Backpackinglight.co.uk. It's red, it's yellow, and it's 3g/metre. Not much more you can say really. Oh, it stops your tarp falling over. Other than it's 1.7g/metre heavier than the 1.5mm but I've already got some of that and it's boring black/white.

Would you like some .5g/m Reg? Won't work with tensioners (unless you make special ones) but great for fixed lines.

Yeah, go on then! Might swap the Gatewood fixed lines for that, with a teeny loop of dyneema on the end for visibility. Next best thing to dismantled spiders webs (*) I reckon. It's not so thin that it slices through things like a light-sabre is it?
How's the cubane (not cuben) fibre line experimentation going? You can get 0.2 nanometre diameter out of that apparently.
Got an emergency additional BaM with Pickers on Monday so will try the vanilla Gatewood first before mucking about with mods I think.

0.2nm? I'm getting visions of 90s films with monofilament whips taking peoples heads off (Johnny Mnemonic, I think).

Re: The post man's been ...
Thanking. Will chuck something in the bear's dinner bowl.
Incidentally, it says 'ere that bears are known to eat the following things:
1. Beavers (just don't OK...)
2. Honey (obviously)
3. Other bears (!)
4. Cows
5. Ants
6. Fungi
7. Dog food
8. Rubbish
9. Dandelions
10. Skunk cabbage (whatever that might be)
11. Moose
12. Seeds
13. Whales
14. Eggs
15. Grass
I think my answer would be "anything, just try and stop them".
Yah, vaguely remember that. Got rather confusing, too many characters for my small brain. One character was a mysterious female 'projection of artificial intelligence', which I'm reasonably sure was modelled on Mrs Perrin.I'm getting visions of 90s films with monofilament whips taking peoples heads off (Johnny Mnemonic, I think).

Surprised not to see popes on that list, given papal toilet habits...
