Not the postman, but I nipped over to Alpkit's new shop in Gateshead to pick up a set of Confucius bars. Spotted them the other week while taking a break from an Ikea trip. Couldn't think why I hadn't tried them before in my quest for the perfect bikepacking handlebar, then realised I'd never seen one for sale before, and this might be the last one in existence (seemingly). It was certainly the last one in the shop, but it was still there, so I got them to put it under the counter and hot-footed it over there.

Not really 'the postmans been' but more of me dropping off the 2020 demo mukluk off at a dodgy Premier store which is a UPS collection point. Going back to QBP now after a fine few weeks here in Wales. I will miss her :(

I saw a dusty pair sat on a windowsill in their Keswick store a few weeks ago, I’d already ordered a pair of Mickeys from on One otherwise I’d have grabbed them.

... with two custom-made Alpkit drybags. My 8L Airlok Extras have been bequeathed to my lad, so took the opportunity to increase the size to 10L. The 8's were OK but 10 allows a bit more wriggle-room while packing. Winter sleeping bag goes in one, inside an Exped U/L bag for complete dryness; and Winterlite mat, Tyvek groundsheet, pillowpump, tarp, pegs, pole, and shower curtain in the other.

The cunning bit.... custom-made out of LS07 not the normal stuff, so a measly 67g per bag! So I reckon I'm looking at about 1800g on the bars with full winter sleep set-up. Just need to wait for the Koala seatpack to wear out then we can have LS07 version of that too, everything else for a few days goes in there.

Assuming the bolts that came with the caliper aren't too long, then a shake down ride beckons this weekend. But only after a full brake bleed on both front and rear calipers.

Oh, interested to hear how you get on with these. I'm looking for something that makes getting in and out of the kayak a little easier without having to do a funky dance/jump thing to keep my feet dry. Especially on the way in really cold days.

My biggest worry is that being neoprene (and waterproof) they'll suck all the heat out when sitting in the boat of they're wet on the outside.

Dunno what Stu paid for those but Lomo do a range of good value neoprene booties (not quite the wellies that are pictured). Always found them warm canoeing in the Lakes. Think your cooling issue would be when exposed to the direct wind, in a boat I guess they're pretty sheltered?

I'm still working on my bouncing bomb. First attempt had a bit of an issue which I'd rather not talk about. Testing involved my neighbour's erstwhile ornamental pond. We're no longer on speaking terms it seems.

Yep BB - just drop them an email. I specified length, breadth, capacity, no end tab just the four edge ones, LS07 material, and no overengineered straps cos I add some superlight S2S 10mm hook/eye ones. Despite their growth I always find AK very obliging with 'specials' so fair play to them.

Ah now Mr Mellie, nice one with that seat harness. Very interested to see photos of it cocked and loaded and ready for a bit of messy outdoor action (oo-ER missus). It says '9L' but I'd be happier with a 13 in it if it fitted. Well I suppose the drybag could be up to infinite capacity if it stuck out backwards far enough.
