If it wasn't for the fact he posted a bunch of pics of his ride - and ones of his bike - I'd never of known. Strava needs to get a handle on it though, or the whole league board thing will become meaningless...

No trace on mine, those elite cat riders must be getting worried!
I've been told there is an e bike section on strava but yet to explore those options. Was a little experiment for myself.
Here's my mini write up on the e bike for my shop

There's an e-bike option under the "Activity Type" drop down but it would be better if a bike itself could be noted as being an e-bike so that any activity using it is marked as such. Other than that it's just a case of those who have KOMs to flag suspicious activity.

I think how you perceive the 'e-bike threat' and Strava largely depends on how you use / view Strava. If it's a personal tool to log your own riding and achievements, then it really doesn't matter what someone else chooses to do. If you use it as an outlet for internet nob waving ... then I can see that an influx of stealth e-bikes might be a touch upsetting

As a personal tool to log your own achievements, there is a personal button so you can keep your achievements personal. I don't use Strava as a nob waving tool particularly*, but ragging an e-bike around a load of regular trails and putting it on strava as if you've powered the thing entirely with your own legs is just being a bit of a nob in my opinion*

Report it? Strava has a specific category for e-bikes.

Yes, did that, but as I explained above, had it not been for his photos, I wouldn't have known he was on an e-bike - which undermines the whole leaderboard thing if such things go on unbeknown to legitimate KOM holders

Like a lot of things, it depends on honesty. I had a part of one of my rides flagged, either by another rider or by Strava themselves. Everything looked OK until you looked at the speed - the last 10Km or so was at a constant 20kph, up hill, down hill, along the flat. No idea what had happened but I hadn't got anywhere near the leader board on any of the segments, I just deleted the ride.
As for e-bikes themselves, in another 20 years I'll be glad of one

I see strava as a bit of fun, if its windy, then I may seek out certain segments that I know locally.
I've been known to do stealth segments too, I.e only setup strava for that one segment and go hell for leather (I only did it after my mate telling me he hates it when this happens to him

).
Used to use strava only on the singlespeed road bike, so I figured anyone with gears was cheating/having a mechanical advantage (and I still stand by this - when will they have a singlespeed section?!)
Properly trolled once by using it in the car, of the 9 segments home, we got 8 KOMs! Worryingly, we've didn't get the only downhill segment. After this troll, I had a customer or two moaning in the shop that someone had beaten their segment times and it didn't take long to be flagged (obviously I took it down). A friend who got a KOM in an honest way had a couple of guys going into his shop and got very nasty over it, they just couldn't take it that someone could ride faster than them!!
T'is a bit of fun for me

(although the above does make me sound like a nob!)

Ha .. I'd take out an e-bike specifically to wind them up : )

I'm really quite astonished that people get so serious about Strava... That really wasn't in my mind when I opened this thread about motorbikes disguised as pushbikes!

On the Strava subject, I do like looking at some of Ian's (and others) segment times and marvelling at what it must be like to have two hearts and bionic legs.

Bet he hasn't declared that on strava

Out of interest, Bob, did you get a notification that the ride had been flagged? I've flagged other rides in the past that are blatantly bad GPS data or segments completed in a vehicle, but always wonder if the other person got to know about it...

No category for that one, see
I lost a KOM to Mark Goldie recently - long fire road climb in the Black Mountains that I've had for 3 years. Lost it by 4 seconds! First thought was, feck, that's going to be difficult to get back. Second thought was, feck, Mark's going well at the moment! Both singlespeed as it happens, so no mechanical advantages on that one :)
I don't object at all to loosing a KOM to a quicker legitimate rider; gives me a reason to go back and have another pop at it

It was an email directly from one of the developers/support staff at Strava rather than an automated email. I didn't see what the problem was at first so queried it and the guy pointed out the speed problem. I've no idea if someone locally had flagged it or if Strava have some periodic task that checks for anomalies. If I was a developer with Strava I'd certainly have something like the latter in place - KOM times getting significantly cut, that sort of thing.
Likewise I've flagged segments that are half the time of one of the local pro riders and are obviously in a vehicle. I do quite like the competitive side of Strava but usually the only person I aim to beat looks at me from the mirror every morning

Did you import a Gpx from another program? I had similar when I migrated from run keeper to strava. It seem to lose the time stamping so attributed my average speed to every point and worked it out from there. Made me very slow downhill and very quick uphill.

No, it was my wife's old Garmin Forerunner 305, data imported directly into Strava. I've a feeling it was the unit as it would do odd things from time to time: there'd be the occasional drop out when I'd get no metrics for a couple of minutes before it started recording again. In this instance the trace showed I'd travelled on the roads I'd ridden just that I'd done it at an incredibly steady pace. The unit's now languishing in a drawer somewhere.
