Am I right in thinking you didn't take a tarp or similar? Just a bivi?
Edit - @Ian

I don't think that was such a bad decision - the forecast was for showers to arrive early morning, it was pretty well spot on. There was a very light shower at around 2 - 2:30am but the first heavy stuff didn't arrive until about 0530 by which time most were on their way. So long as you were out of the breeze (sorry wind) then it was a very pleasant night.

Correct, just a bivvy bag. I figured at worst I might be exposed to only an hour of rain, so it was ok. Also quicker to deploy/ "take down". I have an efficient routine for packing up in the morning which works even if wet.

Ooh, ooh, I've got a question ... Ian, can you fit the X-lite mat inside the bivvy okay without everthing getting squashed/compressed? Mine's not quite as roomy as I expected.

Yes, the x-lite mat will go inside a discovery lite bivvy bag. It's the only mat I have that does though. Works out as a good combo for racing, balancing weight/function/speed.

Enjoyed that, Emma. Well done.
"we passed one guy bivi’d up behind a wall"
That would be me!
I passed your tent at about 4am. I tried to go through the gate as quietly as I could
The "nice Welsh guy" is Rob Wixey. (Berry Wite Ox on here).

I was the guy who trudged (far too up-beat a description!) past you going up Whernside.I thought you were going to catch me up again once it levelled out.
Well done for sticking at it.

The tears of a clown

You did seem to be somewhat subdued compared to how you were at the pub in Gunnerside.

Enjoyed that. Looked at the photos, and thought, I recognise her. Remembered we rode the first part of the Old 240 audax in a little group together.

Pulled my finger out and finished editing the footage I took of the event.

Good write ups guys.Thanks.
So disappointed I didn't get to do this. I hadn't realised so many had dropped out (I was on the reserve list). Anyway I had committed myself to supporting the GF as she attempted the Coast to Coast in a day. In hindsight, I probably wasn't in the best shape, after completely destroying myself on a stage of the MTB C2C a week earlier! So maybe I lucked out?
Very Interested in the YorkshireDales200 though! Cheers.
