Is it acceptable to stay somewhere else the night before (b&b/camp) and then put up a small one man tent (before the start) in the car park field to crawl into and die when I get back from the ride?
No trouble at all.

Great!
Just got to hope I pass my driving test on 23rd September now otherwise getting there is going to be a bit tricky.
By the way where is the closest train station?

Have a look on OSGetamap. I think it's a public/searchable route.

Just to keep this all in one place and make it easier..
So given the below
Anyone know what OS maps will cover the route please, explorer 1:25k if possible...
Sorry I didn't pick up on this earlier ... maps covering the route are, Explorer 215, 214, 200 and 187.
Did people last year carry all 4 maps, is get a map an option for this ? 1:50k, presumably still 2 maps.
I hope to use gps though my gps only does bread crumb trails....and don't know the area are route at all.....

I doubt anyone carried all of the 1:25000 maps (probably very few people carried maps at all)
You may be able to squeeze the full route onto a 1:50000 custom OS map

Not quite all of it. I tried that for year one.

I've squeezed the route onto 4x A3 sheets at 1:50k. I'll print them double sided so then I'm carrying 2x A3 sheets as backup.

You might want to turn that into a pdf and start flogging them

Anyone interested, drop me a polite PM and I'll see what I can do
There is no route drawn on it, and it's a 70+MB pdf

It'll have no roof so don't expect to be able to stay there. 7th-20th October.

If you manage to make it to Nant Rhys you may as well carry on to the finish ... it's not 'that' far

While everyone is thinking about how many hours of lights they may need, its worth thinking about rear lights as well.
Anyone going for a sub 24 hour time is going to be riding along the Cwmystwyth road at the same time as the pissed up tourists are returning from the pub to their holiday homes, so its worth making sure you're all lit up like a christmas tree for that section.

Thanks Ian, didn't know this place even existed! Looks like it's a race to get there before 1600 when the cafe closes

(Should be doable looking at the map...dunno what reality will be like

)

I will be reminding everyone that a rear light is compulsary ... and as Chew says 'Be seen - be safe'
