Re: WRT original weekend (Fri 8th & Sat 9th May) back garden camp out
Sent you yours just now JC. Your area's quite a toughie, but have managed to sort out some sea, country, and urban-warrior so have done me best. Managed to include an obligatory in-the-sea one too so that's good.
Yeah we need more contestants, c'mon guys/gals! Where's the rest of the 150 that would normally jump at WRT? Now that cake has been reinstated you've no excuse!

Based on Reg's grid refs for me.....
New guide line to follow if you want to.
Bike changes are allowed if you have it with you in your bothy and the others can be left safe in there with your kit while you are away riding.

Ooo tea and cake, quite right, can’t have a HRT without it.
Prizes.... got a feeling I might win a fancy rear hub

Pubs

Already talking bollocks to myself so that’s covered

I’m up for this. Anyone want to pick me 10 grid refs within a 15k radius of Dorking town centre?

Re: WRT original weekend (Fri 8th & Sat 9th May) back garden camp out
Ooooo, raffle prizes, I’d forgotten about that, now’s the time to pass off all those stealth purchases as WRT raffle prizes without fear of a beating from the wife.

Yep - have sorted my raffle tickets out, hopefully a T-shirt, and I'll be doing my weights soon. Can we have a virtual weigh-in Taylor, if you've got your virtual scales handy?

As I've never been to a WRT are the refs meant to be at anything? On road? Off road?

Find a virtual ride buddy....
Anyone out there interested in virtual partner Barney?
And follow these guidelines viewtopic.php?f=7&t=16910&start=25#p215496
Message each other your post code.
Send the other person 10 hand picked grid ref's around their home and the mileage that they want to ride out to.
Plot your route/routes. and ride them from Friday.
Reg did me 3 clusters of grid refs
I randomly scattered Whitestones grid refs.
Go exploring your own area and take a picture at each grid ref if you can be bothered

Barney is now sorted Steve but thanks for the offer.
I'm helping him with a WRT Lite version.
Anyone else want to join in?
Steve, are you ok to do a route or several?
Don't worry if you are no good with grid refs or mapping,
If you let us/Steve/me know the following and that you have a GPS to follow a line on and we can do the rest.
1) Give us your rough area that you live (not detailed for obvious reasons)
2) How many days you want to ride out from your home Fri, Sat and/or Sun
3) The mileage you fancy riding each day (5 mile to 50 miles it no problem)
4) the bike that you will be riding (fat, MTB, gravel, road)
And one of us will do you a loop or 3 and have it back to you before the ride off on Friday morning.

Aye John I don’t mind doing some ref,s. As for routes I’ll do some but just remember I don’t know your area, there’s only so much you can get from maps and geograph/streetview so don’t hold it against me if it’s horrible

Re: WRT original weekend (Fri 8th & Sat 9th May) back garden camp out
Thanks for the GRs, Bob. An, er, eclectic selection (*)
.
To anyone not joined in yet - why not?! This is shaping up to be really good fun. Which contestants do we have so far John? Opening my GRs message from Bob was almost like having an extra birthday, I was wriggling with excitement. Several of them I've never been near before and I've lived here 30 years.
Quite entertaining looking at the What3Words locations on gridreffinder as well - "tomato.shipwreck.crash" has got to be worth visiting... "dragons.mainland.boardroom" must have some fiery corporate meetings.... and "fattening.packages.clings" presumably refers to the lemon drizzle that I shall be consuming.
(*) bit of a tongue-twister those. Almost anagrams of each other. Er, but not.

I think there are a dozen of us now.
Not even 10% who took their time out to travel to Wales this weekend... But hey it's up to them, maybe they enjoy the sofa and Netflix...
Now where the hell is my GPS handlebar bracket?
3/4 of an hour wasted looking for it and ... Nothing.
At least I've got a bit of time before the Friday morning ride off to find it.

If I'm not too late, I'm in for this!
Reg has kindly offered to provide a selection of GRs for me, in best LHC form I'll ignore most of them and make a route up. I have suggested a couple of refs that may (or may not) correspond to pubs that are doing take away food.... I may (or may not) use one or more of these regardless.
