I know what you mean John. When I jacked it in a couple of years ago it was because I was beginning to feel it was a bit "stale". I've maintained interest this year by choosing to camp in little spots I'd previously passed - mostly on short, local rides, rather than trying to make everything some sort of big adventure.

Broken wrist twice in almost a 12 month made 2018 pretty forgettable for me.
I've just built a new hardtail up so hoping to up my trail riding and kick start fitness levels, physio going all well and good. Get in the habit of heading to Swinley again.
Rolled around the Chilterns Cycleway loop on my cx bike in 2 days just prior to injury woes so would like to do that again as some form of reaffirmation.
Would like to go for BAM but may have to start off in the spring...
Going to re-engage with things round my necks of the woods, so will work towards a Ridgeway ITT.
Potentially followed by SDW ITT.
WRT
Various social type events such as Gravel 50/50, Brother in the Wild, the event Woods Cyclery are putting on in the New Forest.
Planning and pencilling in GR247 at a time of year when it isn't roasting.
Will follow those riding the bikepacking.com Ardennes route with interest, that looks the style of route that would please my partner.
Is there a Jennride cotswolds edition later in the year?

Yeh sadly meant another edition of this one later in the year. Looks a great ride (plus have family in Stroud) but sadly all too soon

Work in 2018 meant I had time to concentrate on family all year and so got very little done on the two wheel front - Now 2019 will not have the same constraints so WRT and BB200 for sure and possibly that Hungarian ride Stu posted today.
Other than that BAM and just pointing the bike anywhere between 0 and 360 degrees and seeing where I end up.

I've seen your enthusiastic replies on the HT550, Hungary, Bigbear and Dales Divide threads. Surely you'll be in another fight to the death with slarge in next year's mileage contest?

gave up on BAM two years ago, got to 11 (not a bad attempt) but then realised I was going out for the wrong reasons.
had a pretty difficult past two years in terms of bikepacking due to family stuff and giving up work and going back to uni, ended up doing more backpacking than bikepacking but still enjoyed getting out.
2019 is going to be a return to getting out more, instead of BAM my "challenge" is simply minimum 12 bivy's throughout the year. I guess the same principle but allows me a lot more flexibility
Oh yes I'm 50 in 2020, I'd love to do "celebrate" by completing BB200 so I'm starting "training" next year by gradually building up my trip distances.
