Last year’s BB200 destroyed my nearly new mountain bike SPD shoes; clearly not designed for HaB

Bought some Shimano XM9 cycling /hiking boots.

Wearing them at work as I type, so far damn impressed.
Ankle support is very good, but ankle flex seems sufficient for cycling.
Full vibrant sole and a rand; if HaB destroys these I will be impressed.

Very difficult to source, suspect they’re being discontinued

Usually a 46 in Shimano footwear, has to downsize to 45 for the XM9.

In order to streamline my bikepacking gadgets and recharging requirements, to get the GPS “out front”, and because I wanted one (mainly this one I suppose)

Have bought a Garmin Edge 103
Looks nice.
Nothing but praise from my (road) cycling friends
The few boners that have one have had high praise
It was interesting to see that the top TD riders had cycling GPS rather than hiking GPS.
External battery pack was out of stock at wiggle, so that will have to wait.

Have a Garmin Oregon 700, will be interesting to compare the two.
Will sell my Garmin Edge 1000.

Not so much postman's been but a bit of High Street shopping. I couldn't find my small microfibre towel so headed into town to have a look for one. First stop was Cotswolds, their smallest towel was about 600mm x 1000mm and cost £14. Didn't fancy that so thought I'd check Mountain Warehouse. All this recent talk of midge nets/inners/etc prodded me to get the S2S Nano head net - 11g! Despite the fact they all claim to be "soft as a baby's bum", it's still nylon or whatever so isn't that pleasant. More pleasant than the midges I suppose. I've only been nobbled by biters a couple of nights over several years (they obv hate me) so maybe I'll never find out.

Been a good postman (postlady actually) day for me... first arrived some xtr spd pedals. Won off ebay but then the fella messaged me saying it was the wrong set he sent out mistakenly on last ebay listing so I could have these for free...

I imagined it'd be some lesser set (like the m520) but he assured me they looked identical and sent em through... tried telling him I'd pay pistage but just said we can discuss later. Then they arrived and XTR they are. Maybe cos they looked a bit dirty. Cleaned em up and checked bearings. No play but slight grumble... YAY*.. will go service and regrease em just now
(Since I had the nursing book out written by clever people, it might aswell make use of itself as an xtr pedal display... might even do some reading later)

Then came the tyre from Jase the Ace... thanks buddy

A Six Moon Designs Lunar Solo tent. I'm normally a sleeping bag/bivvy bag combo (with or without a tarp for overhead cover, depending on the weather) kinda guy. However, I've finally accepted I'll need a lightweight tent with integral bug net to give me at least a fighting chance against The Highland Midge next month.

'rain' - ideal conditions for testing a new shelter . At least you find out in the garden, with a nice nearby brew and clothes dryer, whether it'll work for you in the rain on top of Plynlimon when you don't want to discover any shortcomings .

And delivered a shiny gold sram XX1 eagle chain in anticipation of the upgrade to 12 speed. I’ve already fitted the microshift barend shifter and XX1 eagle rear mech, I’m running it in friction mode and it shifts ace! Gave it a proper run out midweek on a 30 mile trip, looking forward to the 500% range of the big cog.

One day we are going to do a brompton bikepacking trip involving multi-modal transport, just because. Maybe a train, a boat and a bus. Might be a while off now... maybe when youngest is 6 years, not 6 weeks

I ordered a few velcro straps for securing things, ordered 5 and immediately used 4 on my Big Dummy to be able to secure the handles of bags to the rack. They won't be weight bearing, just trying to close the top so stuff doesn't bounce out

They're so cheap that I'm leaving them permanently attached, whereas the voile straps etc are used only as required

Blast! Didn't see that - went for cheapest price (skinflint me) at £95 instead of £115 (ker-CHING!). That'll teach me.

Yep the multi-modal trip is a great idea whenever you're free - trains, boats, planes, cars, camels, spaceships... must be a Guinness record in there somewhere (edit: where exactly are you down there btw, mebbes I could come to you if that helps? (edit: apologies - congrats on the littl'un ))
