There's a couple of places with some steep stuff, but as mentioned above, overall the climbs are just long. Hours long. 5-8% for a couple of hours...you know about it.
The climb onto the spur at the start of the Indiana Pass jaunt pitches up a little bit for maybe half a mile, then lessens. And of course, you have the lovely Galton Pass portage (pull your bikes front wheel up so the bottom of the tyre is around waist height - that's roughly how steep it is) and some Lava Mountain sections where it's washed out and you have a number of 3-4' steps to climb.

Silly question of the day (sorry)
http://trackleaders.com/tourdivide16
Why have the flags of those out at the back end now coloured white not blue like I guess they started out as?

Click on the "Legend" drop down on the right (it's the bottom one) and it tells you what all the colours mean.

Cheers, at what point does a "Southbound" become a "Touring" as I'm sure there weren't many if any white flags at the start.
Or an I being dumb

More pictures. It looks like he's using old route and paper maps most of the time surely he knows his time won't count

When you sign on, you agree that you'll be doing 30 miles a day beyond the ACA "touring" recommended mileage, otherwise you get relegated to touring mode. ACA mileage is ~60 miles a day.

So under 90 miles a day you get dropped to touring. Interesting.
Thanks for the info

He needs to make it through Vallecitos first (dog alley). I was lucky enough to go through late at night and all the gates were shut so the dogs couldn't get me, I did get chased out of Abiquiu though.

Mikes projected finish has slipped to 14 day 5 hours, but he may make up time on that near the end by not sleeping... would be incredibly if he gets in sub 14 days.

Down to 14 days 2 hours
I suspect 1 stop of a few hours left before the finish, but I've never done it so that's a guess.

If you use the Cuba split of josh from last year and compare it to this years, and 'Terry smiths' milage you can work out how far or time wise they are apart.
At Cuba mike was about 19 to 20 hours ahead. Or he is 160 miles ahead of Terry Smith so 170ish ahead of flag jk.
But bear in mind josh kato in 2015 was really rapid for the last few sections.

Just leaving Steamboat having fitted a new tyre (thanks to orange peel for lething me use the compressor) when it started to rain. I took shelter to get into my waterproofs, and it got worse, then almost Welsh, then lightning. So I checked my phone.....
And then promptly turned back and got a cheap motel room!
Didn't fancy that under a tarp!

Mike Hall is now 45 miles from the finish with only 4 hours and 5 mins to finish under 14 days, looks like I'm not going to be doing much work over the next 4 hours

Mike Hall now showing in Antelope Wells. What a stunning ride from the bloke. 13d, 22h, 51m. I suspect that will stand for a while.
That makes 2 really great finishes this week (Lael's final hours comeback was brilliant as well).
