You're kidding... : ) I love the idea of a pack-bike for bike-packing but the Ritchey's aren't quite right for me and I daren't get couplings fitted to my Jones. I'm emailing Rob... How big is that box, just over wheel sized?

I got a parcel to work and one to home yesterday. Couple of Monkii V cages, spare cleats and a clip. Miles was a real nice guy to deal with.

Have to say they were something that when I first saw them I wasn't at all keen. Feedback on here changed my mind and in the flesh they seem very good.

He's also off to Taiwan bike fair again next week. Wonder what he'll come back with this time?

It's been about 16 months since paying my deposit, and was planned long before then...so yeah,it's great having it my grubby paws at last!

Gwyn arrived this morning with a Golite Den2. There's lots of very useable space inside, will stand up with just 2 pegs and has a little vestibule at the rear. Comes in at about 800g inc' pegs, poles and lines which doesn't seem bad given there's enough room for 2. Not decided about it yet, so it may find it's way onto the classifieds but we'll see.

Looks a good shelter...very usable...i'd have bought it too!! :D

.... with an SD card which I hope has the Garmin GB Discoverer 1:50k mapping on it.

I'll have to wait for the GPS to arrive before I can find out if it works though :?

In reality the Mytimug is a touch big for the 8g but it will work. The new Mytimug set ( dedicated stove, windshield and cosy) is all ready but I've (still) not managed to get it up on the site yet

Busy day here. Etrex 30 GPS, a handlebar mount for said GPS, a small squishy package from Mr Hutchinson and Beth has finished the first prototype for the Jones H-Bar bag. Dizzy with excitement. :D

I was torn between etrex & Dakota. The etrex looks like the screen resolution is better. Being used to "retina" screens the Dakota looks quite fuzzy. The touch screen won through though. I went for the official Garman mount, doesn't look that great to be honest.

I realise that this is borderline ubergeek but ... any chance of an 'in action' screen shot of the Dakota please?

Of course! I haven't got any OS mapping yet however. Plenty of videos on YouTube to see general menu shots, etc.

I went for the Etrex because it didn't have a touch screen. I've had a brief play on Pedalheads Edge 800 and flatfishy's Oregon (?) and found the touch screen a bit erratic. Plus I wear full finger gloves pretty much all year round and wanted something I can use on the move without taking them off.

I've tried out the menus & the calculator while wearing my glacier gloves and the Dakota is pretty good. A benefit of its old-skool resistive, rather than capacitive screen.

I use full fingers all year and never had a problem with the touch screen on the Oregon.
The iPhone, however........ :evil:

I expect there's not much between them once you get use to the unit; down to user preference I suppose, though I hadn't appreciated the Oregon was a resistive screen. That said, we have a Trimble at work with a resistive screen and I find it a bit of a pain sometimes for not picking up taps/ presses.
I'll have a good play with the Etrex 30 and see how it goes.
