Once the other tracks are upgraded we can change it back to the other one.
Thanks for the new route.
The bit Curbaredge to Froggatt Edge (250760) is footpath on the 1:50000 map?
Is that just an inconsistency between maps at different scales?
I don't personally have an issue with it, I just wanted to point it out.
I'm looking to do this Monday 14th April. Will there be any times to aim for by then?
Have you got a site sorted for the "leader board" yet? (I can offer assistance in this department in required).

It is currently, but is being upgraded to a BW iirc, but the route hangs a right on to the road at 260 747. Check the latest .gpx file.

the original route posted is my ideal one but the areas you point out plus longshaw and burbage aren;t yet upgraded but will be.
the GPX that dave has posted today is fully legal and the one we should ride for now.
I'd not really thought about a leaderboard, once its had a completion i'm sure we can get it listed on selfsupporteduk.net

Assuming things go to plan. I'll be coming up on the Sunday night (13th) and camping right by the start and then riding on the Monday. Hope to be riding by 7am at latest really so I use as much day light as possible. Planning to camp still on the Monday night and drive home Tuesday.

Hi folks,
My understanding is that the Curbar / Froggat route should be opening 1st April. The routes through Longshaw are ok now, that is the track just up the road from the Grouse Inn down towards the house and the track from the house up to the Wooden Pole carpark (White Edge). Also the short section from the house gate down towards the Toads Mouth (gate opposite Burbage Green Lane) is also ok. Ace work NT, Eastern Moors Partnership and Ride Sheffield in particular.

Well I'm booked in at Fieldhead campsite for Friday night so looks like I'm doing it then!
A quick look on the web last night seemed to suggest that wild camping is very much frowned upon in the area - is this the case in reality? If I have to pitch up for the night on Saturday can any locals recommend areas to look for or avoid?
Looking forward to it, see you there!

Wild camping is illegal in England/Wales, but the idea is you should find a spot where no one would ever now you were there.
The Peak District is fairly populated, but make sure you find a spot which is away from any houses/farms and roads. Hide away a bit, make sure you arrive late/leave early and you'll have no problems.

And keep any lights to a minimum and don't light a fire.
If you're using a tarp and bivvy bag it's surprising how easily you can go unnoticed. Also, with an ITT you'll possibly not be stopping until most folk are already tucked up for the night

I'm not planning to stop on the 14th when I do it. One shot all the way through. I'll only be riding with normal "long day ride gear" so won't really have a choice.

Yeah I won't be planning on stopping but will take a bivvy bag just in case. I'm used to wild camping but whilst it is often accepted elsewhere in England / Wales, from what I read last night they seemed to be especially intolerant in the Peaks. I even read of wardens etc coming out to police it!

Could be due to the fact that it is surrounded by large populated areas and possibly getting abused. Climbers used to camp out at Stanage Edge but I think they have been getting moved on for quit a number of years now.
There are now local bylaws at Loch Lomond stopping people from wild camping along it's South East end because of abuse and it is strictly enforced.

Riding along very early one summers morning in the Goyt valley ... a fella walking towards me shouts out 'park ranger'
Me: No.
Him: Park ranger.
Me: No chief.
Him: PARK RANGER!
I then realised he wasn't asking a question but making a statement.
Him: Do you realise this is a footpath?
Me: No, I assumed it was a continuation of the bridleway I've just been riding.
Him: No, it's a footpath.
Me: I had no idea, tell you what I'll push my bike.
Him: Erm, I not sure we can let you do that.
Me: Well I suggest you get on the radio and arrange to have me airlifted out then.
I went on my way

Just one of the reasons I moved to Wales.

I've never had any problems wild camping and bivying in the peak. Keep a low profile and you'll be fine.
If you are close to a road or a tourist spot rangers are likely to assume you're a 'beer and campfire' roadside camper and think the worst. If you are bivied up on the back of derwent edge the ranger is likely to welcome your offer of a morning cuppa and stop for a chat (as happened the only time I've ever encountered one while bivying!) there wasn't mention of it not being allowed.

Thanks for taking the time to put the route together Ianfitz
And thanks to the sun for shining on me, when it wasn't dark that is...

Glad you enjoyed it! We've got a benchmark time to aim for next week now too
Who is in for next Saturday? Under the railway bridge at edale - 10am?

Good job Dave.
I'm in
I will be bumbling along at the back of the pack, stopping lots and enjoying the views, just hoping to get around! Aiming for Youlegrave/Bakewell for evening fodder and then a night in the woods south of Chatsworth house.
I may even end up starting friday evening for a very leisurely 2 night ride.
Hope the sun shine holds.

23:56:46 is the stat off the garmin
i was falling asleep so stopped briefly to test out the bivi bag. Moving time 19:19
Distant 220km
Elevation 4828m
So well rested and going round in one is doable I'd say.
amusingly, as my garmin had auto adjusted for the clocks I thought the sub 24h was gone so was bimbling about, chatting to other cyclists and enjoyng the sunshine. Till I realised, then its was all out to finish

I know my stopped time was very slightly over 4 hours till I started taking it easy so my error cost me a half hour I'd say.

Nice work Dave, sounds on a par to the BB200 that does.

Personally I think its harder than the bb200. Different type of riding for sure
