Rob mentioned motorsports. I never tried it, but figure bracketing for HDR with moving objects - even playing kids in bright daylight - will not render usable images. Happy to learn from other experiences though.

Side note; Modern cameras use different principles for HDR the 40D doesn't support. Landscape will work just fine of course.

You can use HDR for action shots with varying success, photomatix has an option to ‘remove ghosts’ which will attempt to remove duplicate parts of the combined images. This actually works better on big angular things like cars than on things that move more organically and have softer edges (like people/animals etc )

it was Simon who mentioned motorsport photography then I waffled on. Basically you need nice kit to do it well i.e fast auto focus and big lenses which is why I gave up on it.

I spend enough time on screens for a living that i'm quite happy for the camera to do all the work. I don't know why I don't do as you say and just stick to my phone.

Bought an olympus em-1 mk3 off ebay last night. Need to find some lenses to go with it. It was a bit of a frustration purchase as im basically sick of looking at specs now. Seems to have some nice features like live composite, starry sky af, hand held high res, phase detect auto focus and also being m43 lens mount has great lens availability. Also a big battery and usb c charging. Doesnt looks as "pocketable" as i'd hope'd but i'll manage.

Picked up an om-5 yesterday. They are running the £300 cashback again so it was £999, or will be once I get that cashback.

It's only day 1, but blimey it's complicated. There is an awful lot to learn.

I bought a used canon m3 off ebay over the christmas break. The M series is now defunct but very happy with it for the compact size, apsc sensor and cheapish lenses, it's certainly great value.
