Goal is to finish as with a young family, a house move (read taking on enormous DIY project) And covid still hurting my commuting days. I’ve got very few miles in the legs, and I haven’t done anything longish for over 12 months so I’ve completely forgotten what type 2 fun is!
I was in solid shape when I last did the event in 2017 and even then it kicked my arse so bad! Learnt some valuable lessons that day which has made many other events since then seem like a walk in the park!
I’ve prepped my bike this weekend ( read oiled the chain and checked I had some brake pads), need to find the box with the bikepacking kit in, then maybe look at the route(doing this didn’t help me much last time!)
The only thing that got me back last time without stopping, (apart from Karl waffling at me) was knowing I could curl up in my van in relative comfort - I didn’t even take the muddy kit off I just fell asleep next to my bike in the back of the van with my other sleeping bag loosely on top of me!

That didn't stop me having a crisis of confidence at the turn off heading out.

Related, I'd be interested in just how closely people followed the route at that point, because it most definitely wasn't the usual one to the crossing...

Always worth checking after my rubbish attempt at the LL200.

I'm interested in how many people followed the actual route line at bush whacking corner...

I think that was the only bit on the route where I got properly confused as to where I was going. I think I ended up in a particularly "crunchy" field.

I followed the diagonal firebreak which crosses the bridleway and is marked on OSM as a brown dashed line. It went, just....

Well the weekend is going to start in an interesting manner (or manor): I'm booked in at the Wynnstay in Llanbrynmair for the Friday night
I just hope that the weather is slightly better than this afternoon in the Lakes - I was just glad the van was ten metres away!

Oh man, if you got confused, I will end up bamboozled!

This Wynnstay is getting more and more intriguing. Quite tempted for January but it'll probably have changed hands by then and gone all yuppie and characterless.

Charlie's going to have an interesting experience if it turns out to be neither pub nor B&B

.
Wonder what would happen if loads of us booked rooms (for WE or WRT say) and happened to arrive with seatpacks full of beers and crisps and enjoyed them in front of the fire in the lounge?

Basically a B&B without the breakfast. There’s a microwave in the room.

I wasn't aware it was open to any capacity.

A "B" then

. Sounds slightly less luxurious than, say, a Gatewood TBH

. Apologies for dissing your accom choice
