Not convinced... we lost at least an hour when 'someone' was struggling to get a tinder connection...

Pretty much nothing ... any excitement will quickly dwindle and you'll likely forget you ever entered. Then ... a week before the start you'll receive an email containing the route, which will lead to much panic

That's a relief. I didn't enter when I saw you'd opened early, now I can't.

Dunno really, just trying to convince myself its a good idea.
Might just go for a rub down with a dry loofah instead!

Woop woop i'm in! i just need to get out and start doing some mileage.
There are so many decision to be made. do i attempt it in one blast and destroy myself in the process? or do i take it easy, enjoy it and use the time available and not get hung on badges? what to do, what to do............

The general idea is to come back broken and relieved.

Don't worry about your strategy until you've seen the route. Then it depends on how well you know the area, i.e. have you done the WRT or any other of Stu's little adventures? A bit of searching should find some photos of parts of the route so you'll be able to figure out where the "interesting" bits are. Any resupply points on the route?
Factor all the above in to your decision making and you'll have an idea of what's achievable for *you*. Until then just get fit - then get fitter

My advice would be just to get out and ride and enjoy yourself. A completion is as much in your head as in your legs.
Before October I'd make sure:
I'd have completed a 100k off road ride
Gotten lost/unlost on tracks I haven't ridden before
Pick routes where bike-a-hike is involved
A few nights out to check my Bivi kit

The one of my three BB200s that I've stopped to sleep is the only one I don't think I did myself justice.
My opinion (not advice!) is take the minimum required kit so that you can survive but not be comfortable. Then, in the wee hours when you're tired, stopping is no more palatable than continuing. If you've not experienced the despair of having to carry on when you're cold and exhausted you've never lived

It's addictive.

Very, very true Paul ... and the sense of satisfaction is quite overwhelming at times (namely the finish).

I've done a couple of wrt's so i have a kind of idea of the terrain that will be involved (ish). i've spent years getting my kit down to the bear minimum so that wont be an issue, its finish line syndrome that i struggle with. i may be completely hanging out of my bottom but i some how convince myself that its not that far until the end and just keep pushing on. i guess we'll just have to see how it goes nearer to the date.

BB200 2016 was my first ever bike packing ride; a keen wild camper though
had no harness, just dry bags strapped to the bars
and a rather full camelback
then it was mentioned there was a "black badge" for a sub-24 hour finish
being a stubborn ba5tard is very help at 3am when drag-a-bike over tussocks whilst encountering a sense-of-humour failure along with cursing the gods (*) for the track not being on the ground as the OS map shows it should.
that bacon roll and tea tastes so good.
Suffering is temporary, failure is permanent.
(*) ok, mean anyone who is listening.

I'm reasonably certain that all of my cursing was aimed at Stu.

Apparently, taking your time and enjoying the scenery isn't the done thing. No one told me that before I set off last year though. I guess it's OK as long as you
look broken by the end of it. Maybe schedule a visit through a muddy puddle and a big hedge a mile or so from the finish line?

Don't worry stu will have this covered for you. All you have to do is ride or push through it

I hadn't realised you'd gone so slowly Colin
Edit: I've just been thinking and I'm wondering what the 'issue' is with this. As far as I know, no one enters the Highland Trail, Braunton, YD300, etc, etc thinking 'be alright, I'll just take my time, have a bimble and see the sights'. Really can't see why the BB200 should be any different? Do folk entering the HT plan to finish in 7 days, 23 hours and 59 minutes knowing there's an 8 day cut-off? Do they bollox.

Partially everyone had it a bit
easy last year.
The weather couldn't have been better
Ground conditions were ideal
The bike a hike was concentrated at the end so people just ploughed on
And the cafe was just at the right point (about 150k) when everyone will go through a bit of a wobble
Just wait for 2014 again
