Cheery Friday, because I've got the day off work, to generally laze about, and get myself ready for Brevet Cymru tomorrow.

Feeling very oddly not nervous about it, at the moment at least, just really looking forward to it.

Pretty cheery for me. Went on a lovely little night ride last night, had a swift half in a pub, saw lots of bats flitting in front of me, and a fox. Off for a chilled weekend with the kids in a yurt in N Dorset later today

Not cheery here in Brixham. It’s Pirate Festival weekend and the town is full of annoying pi55ed cosplayers. If family weren’t down I’d be at WRT in a flash.

After taking redundancy from teaching last autumn, it turns out I miss the classroom/kids/human interaction... so decided to apply for some part-time jobs so I can carry on being an exam board lead person too. Got a 2 day a week job in a lovely little 11-16 school in Chesterfield on Monday, starting in September. I had to take identity documents in so decided to break out the summer road bike and give it a go this afternoon.

Commute is absolutely lovely - best road riding can be outside of the alps, ventoux or belgium I think. 26km each way, through the peaks on reasonable roads. Because I live on a massive hill, and Chesterfield isn't, it's 300m climbing there and 500+m home, and all the climbing is at the start on the way in. Means I can take it fairly easy on the way to work, arrive without being a sweaty mess and then give it some effort on the way home

Totally forgot to take any photos, but suffice to say there was lots of colourful heather, plenty of views and even an excellent cup of tea from the lovely school receptionist

Cheery one here, preparing for a nice weekend away in Dorset, and i've engineered it so i'm doing some train-assisted bike riding. So i've got a nice 30 mile ride from Salisbury to Blandford on saturday, off road. Then riding to the Purbecks, and home on the train from Wareham. Weather looks great and not too hot. Just some minor anxiety about making various train connections and bike reservations - but hopefully it'll work out well!

Plus i've already had a really good ride over the ridgeway this week on dusty byways

Aye, I'll bite too. Mrs Perrin off with her girly mates for a few days. I've managed to burn through my chores orders in quick time (hoover/clean everywhere, sort the drains out, water her plants without overwatering them or I'm dead, mortar some gaps in the yard cobbles, paint the downstairs karzi walls, sort out her dinner when she gets back etc etc)... so am rewarding self with emergency BaM to the Peak District.... 06.52 train tomorrow morning.

Bit ironic cos they're in the Peak as well so just need make sure I don't bump into them. What're the chances...

Chosen Peak Dist as trains from Milton Keynes to Macclesfield are only 1h15mins - insanely fast for 130 miles journey.

Will wing it when I get there.

Had some nice rides on the singlespeed this week

Went to see Simon Reeve last night, was great to see him in real. Gave some behind the scenes footage, gave some light hearted humour and some political parts too, well worth seeing him if you can

Daughter’s 11th birthday today, so off to the local Italian. They turn off all the lights and the staff sing happy birthday, was her idea to go there, can’t think why she wants all the attention (spot the only child…!)

Slightly shocked at having to ride in London albeit just over Westminster Bridge

Just the small matter of the 1000' climb out of Macclesfield to get into Peak Park proper.. gulp.

Reg - that's a fast trip to the Peaks! My (albeit circuitous) route to Salisbury is 2 hours+ due to changes, it's only 50 miles away!

Whitestone - Enjoy! I want to do the old chalk way at some point, my ride from Salisbury is on part of the route from Wilton - near Shaftesbury

City riding - shocking but enjoyable? Used to love Brommie commuting in London, but then I am a bit mental it's true.

Really must get back round there one day. Decades ago stayed at Station Hotel (?) in Tisbury (nice beers, probably gone now!) and rode all round chalk tracks - Ebbesbourne, Win Green etc. Great days.

Train down to kings X then tube to Westminster then rode to Waterloo and train down to Axminster.

Done about 45km of the route. Decided to commit to a hammock bivy trip! Currently in a wood near Evershot (wherever that is)
