Re: Bargain Alert Thread
Serendipitously I ordered a set of walking boots yesterday (Anacapaka so??). Was tempted by the high-top Speedgoats but the colour scheme, and some reviews, were a touch mleh. If I had the brass for both tho ......

Edit - great service as they arrived this morning. Sadly, despite already having two pairs of Hokas in the same size this boot is massively too large

Mleh

Back to the Speedgoat option (by crikey they're lairy).

Most things on the Mountain Hardware website are 50% off at the moment, the highlights probably being the sleeping bags and the Ghost Whisperer 2 jacket.

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
Strangely, they were a quid or two more on Wiggle than CRC when I bought. I assumed it was the same computer system.

often minor differences between the two

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
I got a pair as my schwalbe G-ones are nearly done. Seem OK in the lounge test although reviews suggest the usual WTB sealant leakage through the side walls. I liked the idea of them have a puncture proof layer as the g-ones puncture as soon as look at them, and don't always seal....

Had a set of byways in 650b flavour setup with tubes, had two punctures in 18 months and that was with a fair amount of riding too over most terrains. I liked it themfatbikephil wrote: ↑Fri Mar 03, 2023 9:32 pmI got a pair as my schwalbe G-ones are nearly done. Evans (inside House of Fraser in Birmingham)
When the other day and it seems Evans has turned into the outlet cycling store for the company.
Most stuff seemed to be reduced with 20% off everything (it was 20% off everything in the house of Fraser too)
They had a load of bikes, some good bikes and it was all seriously reduced
If I had the spare cash I think I would have just bought an extra bike for commuting to work such was the temptation and the good prices.
If your in birmingham might be worth a look

Re: Bargain Alert Thread
This light came today: https://www.leisurelakesbikes.com/acces ... ck__352868
That was after putting out a little thread enquiring about the Joystick (Exposure). As you can see the Moon came in at only £33 and can be had on Amazong for £39. So a cheap and cheerful light, but hopefully a solid performer (I know you seldom get all three of quality, cheap, bright etc).
This is a tiny mini review as it does seem impressive.

Weighing in at only 124g and a total weight including the helmet light of 150g (weighed). Doesn't seem too heavy on the head but reviews in CRC and elsewhere report that one person used Sugru and a velcro strap to get the weight down further and the profile lower. Two issues I'd see with this are that the velcro might obscure the actual switch to turn on/off and on my current helmet getting the straps around would be a bit cumbersome.
I managed to get the straps on with some careful management/manipulation of the MIPS system inside the helmet. I think I could probably upgrade the current cheap velcro and get a lower profile, stronger attachment and lose a few grams!

The main 2 things that seemed top on this light, aswell as the good reports about light spread, is that it has USB-c as well as the ability to tune the light output. So you can go into the solid-state modes (non-flashing) and then drop/raise the output. I think if I can find an output that's giving me about 8 hours then that would be beautiful.
Current testing is helping with just that... You can also set it at whatever output you've tuned it to and then press the buttons accordingly to have the torch to turn on at just that lumen level. Something that for me and my dyslexia I (would) find a bit complex. But then again, I also found the mode selections in both the Exposure TORO and Strada a bit cumbersome.

Lowest level in the lowest mode. Reportedly about 100 lumens, but they seem to be good quality lumens (and good lux!?). Missus said that the light wasn't enough to do her youtubing though

Medium mode which she's happy at. Probably about 250 lumens or thereabouts. Though the manual reports that this tuning goes from 20 to 1000 lumens, I'm sure that's just a typo as it says the same of both solid state modes when tuning. The higher mode being about 1000 lumens and the lower being about 100 (without the tuning option).
I'm currently testing the output time at this above mode and started the test at 2100. Hopefully we will catch it when/before it turns off. But if not I'll just repeat the test tomorrow. Warranty is only 1 year but if you oay peanuts, you get monkeys!?

Highest output in the tuned mode. Something that I wouldn't use on the trails as I couldn't afford to lose the run-time.
THE END (for now).

RE Evans pricing
They do have a lot of tempting clearance lines these days though, buying power of Fraser's Group and the overstocks in the industry make it a good time for them I expect.
Look closely, the Pinnacle bikes for example are 'hi-lo' priced all year round now. A bike that would be £1000 at normal market value gets priced at £1250 then reduced to £1000 so it almost always has a discount tag on it. Common retail practice, just check the spec vs other brands before seeing the bikes as a bargain. Most stuff seemed to be reduced with 20% off everything (it was 20% off everything in the house of Fraser too)
