If he continues at the same pace for the rest of the race he'll finish in (I think) roughly 10 and a half days!
Has anyone ever checked if Mike is human?
Are alien mile eaters allowed in the Tour Divide?

It's a shame his Spot wasn't working to start with. I like to see how these front runners manage their sleep. It looks like Mike's only had 3hrs sleep over about 43 hours. That's likely but surely he'll pay for it later on. I'm guessing sleep deprivation whilst maintaining a consistent pace are two things he's been focussing on.

Really pleased to see how well Mike McElveen is going. He's 63 and has ridden the route as a tourer, decided to see how he found racing it this year. I'd say he's doing great! A really nice guy, hoping his ride continues so well.

Even in America ordering 3 foot long subs gets you a funny look.

I expect you'll be sick of the sight of Subway by the time you reach NM :|

I note there were a few riders nearer 70 than 60. Ace!

Another rough calculation puts Mike's finish time at 11.1 days, down from my calculation this morning of 11.2 days.
He must be a robot, right?

Johnnystorm's getting an appetite!

Or, you'll be craving them as the only place to get cold, fresh vegetables .. lots of crunchy, crisp vegetables .. with cheese .. lots of meat .. olives and gherkins .. they do ice cream too ..

Nah...it's just a bit leafy through that section...his spot might not have had clear sight when it was sending. He's nearly up to the top of Red Meadow...nice long descent for him coming on up all the way down to Whitefish.

Just catching up properly after being away for the weekend. The point Scattamah was saying Greg just missed stopping is a place Chew, me and others stopped briefly in 2013. One of them, Glen, raced last year and I reminded him that it was an ideal place to stop if it was the right time to bed down.

Incredible pace by Mike though

Its all happening on the TD !

"Looks like we've had at least one bluff charge from a juvi bear. And Josh Kato was run off the road by a truck headed up the back of Red Meadow Pass. So his knee is a little tweaked but he seems to be doing good since then"

This evening's "johnnystorm's dietary habits update" :

Half a sub has been kept for breakfast along with half a bag of jelly beans and half a bag of "Olympic mix" ( like trailer mix bit more epoxy I hope).

I'm tucking into a starter of 10 Korean barbecue chocken wings and a plate of pasta and meatballs at Second Street Pizza in Whitefish.

Day three has been a contrast to the others, rain has been replaced by choking dust and the Border guards at Roosville clearly don't have the same "miserable as sin lessons" that TSA staff usually have.

Has Mike slept yet? I think I can see a 2 or 3 hour stop period on race flow and that's it?!

Keep trucking away Mr Storm, sounds like you're in good spirits :-bd

Any news on Greg? I know he was keeping updates minimal

I see "Terry" stopped at the top of the pass on Old Bannack Road. Such an incredible valley.

Almost 3am and Mike is still riding while the rest of the humanoids are stopped for some sleep. There is a nice camping spot a couple of miles ahead of him where he could get a few hours if necessary. However if he has ridden this far into the night unlikely to stop now as light in a couple of hours and why waste good riding time.

There is a slower section coming up before Basin though even if the section he is on just now is fire-roads.

Is it my imagination or does that say "No Overnight Camping"? Doesn't that make it at bit of an odd choice for a camping spot? :P

Mike's time/speed flow is amazing. If it's sustainable rather than a break-others tactic it's even more amazing. Power-napping as needed (if at all?) and getting as far down the road as possible before needing a longer rest at a spot he has in mind, then repeat?
A long way from Matt Lee's take on it that a consistent, quick 5am-11pm without f-ing about during those hours will get it done fast. That may get you 16-18 days but take out 17 x 5 hour rests, replace with 10 x 3 or similar, you've gained 2 days .. maybe it's into another kind of game now.

Stunning place. Well done to him if he's just there soaking it all up.
