I think the route is actually 555.6 according to trackleaders

Yes route changes slightly every year, but the name has been HT550 since 2013. It is never exactly 550 miles!

Tony the 2017 record course was 6 miles shorter and different in a few places to the 2021 route.

What time do he need to finish in to get the fastest time?
Or has that passed please?

I think it's a little over 550 miles. I remember taking an hour from Bridge of Orchy to the finish.
Sean posted earlier that he needs to finish by 19:17 to beat Neil's time. Not sure you can compare though since the new route through Fisherfield is at least two hours longer. The 2017 route along the Postie's path offers no advantage or disadvantage to single speed but this year's route along from the Tollie Path is just a flat main road best suited to gears.

Yes. If he crosses the line gravel/tarmac first, it will be a new course record.
Nobody has ridden this course faster.
Other wins and records have been made on different courses.
The route length on trackleaders is just an approximation. Close, but not exactly.

No matter if it's longer or shorter, it's a different route.
It will be a course record if he comes first, which seems highly likely.
Neil's record stands.
Liam's record will stand.
As do all the personal achievements of each rider

Guess what?
Yeah, he will get the fastest time for this course.

The course has changed just about every year though, so I don't think Alan has a separate record for every course he's set, it's just tough luck?
The same for most events, I had the SS record for the Dales Divide (I rode the first edition and was the only singlespeeder

) but that's been beaten, plus the course has changed so my record has been broken. I don't say I still hold the record for the original route.
He will definitely knock 12* hours off the singlespeed record
*I think Javi's record is 3 days 22 hours?

We might not find out as I think he'll be finished by the next ping but that will be in 10 minutes and he's got 5 to beat the record.

Different courses they may be, but adds a nice bit of excitement to the finish. Incredible ride, although...

He broke a spoke on the Dales Divide, so maybe lost faith in the wheel?
At 30, he's probably going to get better at this sort of thing I guess. It'll never make him rich though........
