Yes see you then Dave. Went to find a place for Friday prayers, but got late (could've dome em at my local masjid but was doing the tubeless). Went to the next masjid down as I'd never reach that one in time. L

Right, so then ended up in Halfords instead. Bought the chain which I realised might be the last piece of the jigsaw. Then realised I also needs an inner tube, phew. Bought nothing for them and a microfiber cloth then bumped into the wife in Halfords.

Very happy Friday here, activities day at school so I've ended up taking 14 lovely kids to the local bouldering wall. Some of them really took to it too, and one who's really shy and struggles at school was a total natural and beaming all the time

Even got to do plenty of problems myself, and while my damaged knee and plantar facia are making themselves known this evening, they don't feel too bad at all.

Would use Merlin but they don’t allow the courier to leave it on the doorstep nor take it to a local collection point, so that makes it rather awkward…

£36 chain for £20 on their online version. They don't allow such low prices in store unless you're getting a price match. I'm really impressed with my local for last few years now. Hopefully they don't sell up too as I know they're struggling.

Food always helps dunnit. I'm currently in 23 miles of a 97 miler. But the rear bearing is really winding me up. Scrunch, scrunch!! Tightened up the axle a couple times (first time being my fault as it was under tightened).

The scrunch is enough to have me questioning my ability to endure. Stopped at an ice cream shop and considering my options (shortened to a 60 miler or continue with that original plan!).

Off to The Woods so cheery. More later!

Had some SeamGrip-WP in t'loft, so let's use that. Hang on, the small print says "not for silicone fabrics". So what fabric ARE my tarps?

I'm sure you lot know all about these things, but I must admit I've not paid much attention before to the different fabric types. I erect it, it keeps me dry. Simples. Have been aware of Silnylon, and vaguely about PU types, and the difference between fabrics and coatings.

Hmm, there's also a Seamgrip-SIL for Silnylon shelters, so bought some of that and thought I'd try both types on a small area and see which one stuck to which tarp.

So I looked up my DD Superlight and it turns out to be "PU-nylon". OK, the WP is OK for that then.

Can't find any info for my Backpackinglight Duo (no longer sold since BPL been taken over by someone else). Well let's try WP on that too and see what happens.

Applied yesterday and left over night and WP seems to have adhered to both tarps so all's Cheery. No need for the SIL now, although I now realise my Gatewood is Silnylon so maybe useful for that in future.

Did a bit more research and as well as PUnylon and Silnylon, there's also Silpoly! Presumably silicone coated polyester. So now we have polyester fabric and polyurethane coating. Confused? You will be.

Additionally just to add to the fun some fabrics are coated, either one or both sides, and some are impregnated.

And now, back to the studio.

That's obviously where they get those little samples from that you can post off for......

In fact the instructions for Seamgrip helpfully explain how you encourage the associated mating process...... "squeeze the tube until it squirts out, bringing both sides together firmly until a satisfactory finish has been achieved". Or something like that.

I'll get my coat[ing]....

(of course, the WP/SIL question is based on the coating not the underlying fabric)

Not sure what's happening this weekend. Weather a bit hit and miss (as per normal this year) no other plans so might do another BAM

BaM for July already done, so I’ve put this in here.

So I turned up at work as usual, to find that my bit of the factory was shut down (maintenance or summat) for two days. The choice was two days of boredom or make-work or two holidays. My choice. I chose the holidays and trundled off home but on the way, passed a wilderness of willow herb on what had been the RAF Tilstock airfield.



Bing! Lightbulb moment! Bivvy-in-flowers. I’ve bivvied in snowdrops, violets, primroses, anemones, bluebells, wild garlic (phew), clover and now, willowherb.

After tea, (fish 'n' chips -it’s Friday after all) I pedalled away to my flowery date, calling at the Horseshoes in Tilstock…

Then The Raven at Prees Heath, where I got talking to three truckers: one that had been in school with my daughter, one who was heavily into the Paleo diet (and covid conspiracy and probably a flat earth) and one who had driven all over Europe and gave me a voucher for breakfast at the truckstop. Edit - nice story from last week. Cycling along and see two people with a map/phone out looking a bit lost. Anyways, thought I’d ask if they were ok?

Turns out they were needing a path not too far down from where I was heading, so I said join me and I’ll point you in the right direction. As we set off, one of them looks at their tyres and realises they have a puncture. Sods laws

Ask them if they need help (I was a little short of time) and they replied, may do… anyway, cutting a short story, shorter, I do the tube swap for them (they even watched me pump up the tyre ) and we get on our way. Short delay, nice chat about their ride and where they were heading to (sounded like a good one) and I point them in the right direction. Everyone happy
