Haven't been 'home' since New Year's Eve. So many things!

Just bought the last set of those montane down bootie's from the Go Outdoors store in Colchester, just in time for tomorrow.
Also a small bottle of port and a random cheese selection from the supermarket next door.

Gonna be a very relaxed Bach to Bach!

Technically the postman didn't bring this, but I just went and picked it up. This is my effort to reduce the weight and bulk of photographic gear for the sorts of shoots I do, while not loosing any print quality at big sizes (A0+).

Got a 12mm ƒ/2 lens turning up next week as a landscape lens too.

Re thinking my layering and this is my new mid layer.
Two hours of hills tomorrow morning to give it a try out.
Waiting for Minimus smock to turn up in a sale at a reasonable price.

A Sawyer Mini filter of ebay turns out dealer is local or at least a PL postcode.
What looks like a CofC document included.
Anyone know what bottle a Sawyer will fit on?

The sawyer will fit a evernew and source collapsible bottles also I think cola/water type bottles.
It's not a good fit for platypus bottles as the screw thread is different on platypus so not a perfect fit and might leak.

If incorrect please correct.

Was very impressed by the performance of the one I saw this weekend, seemed to run forever. Might have to buy one just for the hell of it. :D

If you find the flame's burning a little yellow (once everything's warmed up) just open the windshield out a little bit - remember there's more hot air trying to escape than fresh air trying to get in


A pair of 165mm Alivio cranks arrived today for the Stooge. It's a shame Shimano don't offer Deore or SLX in 165mm but for the price these actually look very nice. Oh and some new rather special looking shoes too

I looked at those Gari but they were nearly twice the price of Alivio .... and I'm not certain yet whether I'll stick with that length, Zee were also a little more 'substantial'

just received a bumper delivery this morning,
xt triple groupset, avid brakeset, jones bends, Thomson post/stem, brooks saddle, disc specific rack, saddlebag, new pedals, schwalbe tyres, mudguards, base layer, socks, and a new helmet.
just awaiting frame and big bloke proof wheels to land.

Will try that with the wind shield, seems a bit more to using these stoves than gas.

I tied to light it with a flint and steel and failed so resorted to a lighter, is this just down to me?

Also on an average overnighter how much fuel would be good to take? 100ml enough. I suppose it does depend on many factors.

I suppose there is a certain skill to using meths but it can be very rewarding once you've had a practice / mess about.

Lighter every time, if you can't get the flame down to the fuel, dip a twig / bit of grass into the fuel and use it like a match.

100ml should be plenty, even with heavy tea consumption

Got a Garnin Forerunner 210 in the post today. Now with HR recording, I can measure more accurately how crap I am at running

Stuart if you're stripping them down for single ring use would you be able to put them on a scale with no rings on? I find its the only way to compare crank weights fairly.

'Twas my afterburner in the Nant Rhys bothy at the weekend. When running from full, with a windshield (essential to lift the pot off the flame) it was going for about 10 minutes. Enough to boil my water and at least one other persons. The only downside is that you can't switch it off, but it means less fuel to carry the next day! Brilliant piece of kit, and the stove, windshield, matches and hot chocolate sachets all fit inside a 400mL mug. Total weight about 100g. If I could find a small fat fuel bottle that would fit inside as well.

Got some poles from a bloke in Wales on Saturday. Didn't get a chance to use them though!

Stu, I reckon 165mm cranks will be fine - I use them now and find them better (can spin the pedals faster and the power transfer seems the same. And fewer pedals strikes.)

I recently went from 175 to 165, as I was struggling with dodgy knees too. Made an amazing difference, hard to imagine that just 10mm can have such an impact(stop sniggering at the back!!)

An Oookworks bathtub arrived today to go with SMD Deschutes and the pole from Wales. A nice lightweight setup for both work and pleasure
