April Valleycat with my mates
May HT550 (in the balance at the moment)
July National 24hr Time Trial championship (almost definitely committed to this...type 2 fun at its purest :-bd )
Would be nice to do some riding outside the UK (which I haven't done since 2011), so maybe I'll add the TNR to the list again, more in hope than certainty.

Lots of other things to fill in the gaps, some of which will get called 'training' for the HT550 or 24TT.

Firstly for 2017 I need to be more committed, I often read about things and think "I'd like to do that" but then don't do anything about it, so time to stop dreaming and start riding! With that in mind putting my list down means I'll have to do them.

Braunton 150 - already on the group start list so that's more commitment than I've managed before
Downs 300 - assuming a route is up together which I'm sure it will be by 2017, either as an ITT or on the group start
Either Lakeland 200, Cairngorms Loop or Yorkshire Dales 300 - Probably Yorkshire Dales 300 (you can work out my 2018 aim from this)
At least one BB event - BB200 is the most likely assuming I can get a place

Oh, and to get the wife back out on the bike and biving after having a knee operation this year and having a back issue as well, but now thankfully on the mend.

My main goal for 2017 is to actually finish the things I start!

That being said, here is where I plan big and so it'll be no surprise if I don't start many of the things on the list below - it's more of a wish list for the year.

Ok, here we go:

- 2017 - 52 x weekly century ride challenge
- January - fatbiking.eu Winter Fatbike Camp
- April - Veneto Trail (gravel version)
- May - Cyclotour du Léman (Lake Geneva Sportive)
- June - Tuscany Trail
- September - Torino Nice Rally
- October - BB200

That all sounds fairly exotic but keep in mind that the only one of those that's more than a few hours drive from me is the BB200 (and that'll fall over our twice yearly uk visit).

Now let's see just how little my actual year resembles this list.

Is that a European century or a British Century?

The plan is to do imperial century's but it's a big ask, I know.

I did 16 consequence weeks in 2015 but not one single century this year so far (boo!).

I'd be doing euro centuries until Easter, the British ones until the clocks go back in Autumn :-)

That's actually a good way of doing it with the daylight and weather etc...

Might do the same?

Are you serious...?!

No injury, no illness, no bad weather, no weeks off for good behaviour. 8,000km+ on these rides alone.

Admittedly I've not been aiming for it, but I bet I've not managed a century a month this year in nearly 6,000km.

I'm serious about maybe giving it a good go!

Can't beat myself up if something unforeseen stops play but equally can't not try something because it might not work out.

Like I said, managed 16 weeks in a row last year but even then maybe a few were a few miles short and I seem to remember one at the tail end of a week that'd already had one and counting it as the week afters ride etc...

I felt I couldn't take it or myself to seriously otherwise I'd have given up before I got started.

The thing that stopped me last year was getting ill during Etape - kept me off the bike for a bit.

But I was in the best shape I'd been in for years up until that point.

Got to have a dream etc...

Don't get me wrong, I admire you for trying!
I don't think I could stick to a goal that long, both in time and distance.

Taylor, will be walking it, but not all of it, probably just a 20-30 mile section, over a warm dry weekend with sunshine - that will make Helen happy!

There's a guy in my team doing it with his lad, who is driving his RC car - not sure what that's all about but it takes all sorts ( I think they say that about me).

Strathpuffer
Cairngorms Loop
HTR550 (hopefully devoid of knee problems)

I'm also planning a foreign trip too, this time to ride the Black Hills Expedition in South Dakota and Wyoming. With any luck I can get some riding in Colorado done, and possibly a wee trip out to Moab at the same time. We shall see...

Jack Peterson has run the 100 mile riders challenge all this year and we've had 3 riders go over the magic 100 tons.

I haven't got much money and time away is difficult...so probably

Ridgeway double - should have managed it this year but never committed.

SDW - having survived the BB200 I will probably attempt the double.

An ITT with some different terrain, maybe Braunton or the Cambrian trail.

I was disappointed to finish outside of 150% of the leaders time in the Scott Mountain Marathon I did this year so that's unfinished business, good value family camping as well.

Mostly the same as last year

Commute by bike to keep my base fitness up
Longer dog bikes/walks when possible
Continue with my local night rides with a mate

Plus I'd like to do a bit more walking, so I can take the dog. My other dog will be old enough to do some big walks in the summer so I'd like to do a few over the course of the year. While I love biking, I like walking too

My plans are, probably in order of execution

Rovaniemi 300
High Rouleurs Journey
Everesting - Suburban
Cairngorms Loop
Everesting - Soil (thus completing the SSSS elite class)
Borders 350
TNR
BB200

- Go biking where others go ski touring.
- Go ski touring.
- Long distance hike.
- Packraft some Swiss rivers.
- Ride hard and crack the main frame of my trusty BMC Fourstroke.
- Take part in an UCI race.
- Change 18t to 16t cog on ssp.
- 320 km Jura Traverse. Ride the hellish route I sketched out and struggled to finish.
- Do more Enduro Biking than last year.
- Get back into mixed climing.
- Ride down some more 3000 m Peaks.
- Take more friends (unfamiliar with bike packing) on 2-3 day trips.
- Go on more gourmet (especially evening meals in camp) bike packing/ski touring/hiking/packrafting trips with my GF.
- not to fly anywhere. No planes, no flights 2017. Save the planet.

Not in this order.

Bit uncertain for me as I'm getting into my running at the moment and want to keep that ticking over instead of falling off like it did this year.

Biking wise would like to do

BB Winter Ride (entered)
Peak 200
TNR
Penine Bridleway E2E

Make a return to audaxing

Running wise I would like do

A Glossop to Sheffield marathon distance run
Something else ultra distance, possibly multi day.

Maybe not as adventurous as others, but I'm planning to try a bivvy a month next year.
Start small and see where it leads.

After bumping the 2016 thread my current and 2017 goals aren't really bikepacking, or even bike, related...

* Ride bikes/hike/eat pizza/drink coffee or beers with as many friends as possible between now and the end of January
* Finish selling/donating/recycling as much as possible and make sure my parents aren't inconvenienced by whatever is left
* Finish working, pack my life into a duffel bag, visit some old friends in far away places
* Run more, hike more, sleep outside more
* Get better at being high up on things
* Be nice, eat vegetables, read more books
* Try and offset the environmental impact the above as best I can.

Pretty much abandoned wheelies for the moment.

I'm planning a little incentive for next year.

Too early to ask what the incentive may be?
