Hammocks.

I used to use a mat when I got my first hammock which was fine but when I got my first underquilt I vowed never to use a pad again. It's just so much more comfy and theres no fear of the mat popping out from you in the middle of the night.

would a hammock event be better for the winter bivvy - getting off the ground etc?

I think I will try one and these for £10 are a cheap way to try it out so will order one now :D

Just remember Pete, the ten quid ones don't have any midge netting ... but hey, you can't go wrong for a tenner

that's a point Stu so is there another one with the netting you/Nevis/flatfish can recommend might as well get the the right one from the start

Right Pete, the ones with the 3 layer bottoms are the Green Hornet which only seem to be left in odd colours. The other option would be just the Jungle hammock which doesn't seem to be 3 layers although it does have a full net or the one below which has some bottom insulation built in and a full net.

If you don't mind the Rasta look then the Tropical Green Hornet looks like the one, also avaliable in a rather smashing orange :D

Nope, I got blue I think. Nothing fancy, just the el cheapo tenner version. No bug net.

Hammocking is generally heavier but the comfort benefits, for me, are worth the extra half kilo.

All you'll need is a decent size tarp to cover you.

If you set it up corner to opposite corner to get the longest ridge line I reckon it should be big enough.

so I have ordered a camo insulated hammock now need tips on how to tie/get in the chuffing things without busting my other leg or arm for that matter please
