Alpkit Koala v Apidura Saddlebag?

Re: Alpkit Koala v Apidura Saddlebag?
I've heard some people mention problems with the "central" strap that goes under the saddle rails, if it's all pulled too tightly the bag can fold in half. I'm thinking of slipping some kind of stiffener (no idea what) in the base of the bag to give the strap something to pull against. (This is the for the AirLok tapered btw)
Re: Alpkit Koala v Apidura Saddlebag?
The only seatpack that makes sense to me is something with a rigid support, like the old half racks carradice used
The porcelain rocket Mr.Fusion seems to be an excellent idea,

I've never got to try a proper seatpack yet as I'm still paring down kit, but I've experimented MYOG many designs that all failed, so I can see where the money goes in R&D alone, gonna try my own version on a Fusion next though

What do you currently use at the rear ? (so to speak) A rack? I saw the Porcelain Rocket packs but don't seem to be able to find anyone importing them in to the UK. I know it's possible to import from the US, but then if something goes wrong.... Can of worms etc.HaYWiRe wrote:The only seatpack that makes sense to me is something with a rigid support, like the old half racks carradice used

The most suitable rack I could find, 350g and very minimal, 2 dry bags on top, 2.5kg absolute max, usually including extra food I bungie on top,
Survived quite alot of abuse on trails, though no doubt it will fail eventually.
You can get adapters to mount racks to a ring around your seatpost, if you don't have braze one, and a few places sell spares arms for racks, all of this has got me planning my own model, an under supported seatpack, ideas ideas....

Cheers for the info!

Well they are as solid as you pack them. I put my cooking pan at the bottom end and use this to get the bottom strap really tight. I used for 4 days in the Cairngoms over some pretty rough ground and it didn't budge at all.ootini wrote:No, I've not ruled it out, it's being purchased as we speak. I'm just not particularly confident about how solid it will be. So doing research on 'proper' seat packs in the mean time.
The big benefits for me are:
1. Cheap - at £15, the only cheaper option would be another drybag (eg standarad 13l airlok xtra )
2. Light - my tapered airlok including all straps only weighs 230g
3. Already waterproof which I don't think any of the 'proper' seatpacks are?
