Hi Stu, not quite sure yet. The chain set has a bashguard type thing around the chainring on the outside. I had thought just a chain watcher mounted on the seat tube would work but when I looked at it the gap between the seat tube and chainring is quite big. Another thing to bear in mind is that Andrew would not be able to re mount the chain if he is by himself so something that will definatley not allow the chain to drop off in the first place is required. I will post some photo's and measurements and see what you think, thanks.

Having jack knifed a similar concept i'd hazard a guess they will actually have you off pretty fast.

Ackerman steering trikes on the other hand are quite goid fun in recumbent form!

maybe the problem solvers that are used on Fat bikes might help lessen the gap,

Hi Stu, here's the pics and measurements of Andrews chainset. The gap is not as big as I thought between chainring and seat tube - 2.2 cm but a seat tube mounted device could be problematic as the seat tube is huge.

Huge seat tube, diameter is 3.6 cm, circumference a wopping 12.2 cm.

The BB is a sealed unit square taper. Open to suggestions but I could probably make something to fit if needed.

Let me have a rummage in the cellar Ray, I'll have something. I wonder whether a BB mounted tensioner might be the way forward.

I reckon this should do the trick Ray. Obviously it's BB mount so there shouldn't be any issues with getting it inline with the chain. I made the plate from 3mm stainless (the standard ones are generally bendy rubbish), I added extra mounting holes for the idler too, so it's fully adjustable.

If you don't mind, can I also throw a pair of pedals in the box? Those rubber / nylon things upset me

Take the bike to Bike Station. They will have boxes of clamps from which you could bodge a guide
