Depends where your heading to?
The Penrhos Arms on the A470 and the Black Lion in Talybont are both quite decent
The landlord let me, yetiman and bro Smith camp in his bee garden a few years back after we explained about leaving his pub early to find a bivi spot! More beer was consumed as a wee thank you to the kind man

Local knowledge please.
Is the BP fuel station premier store still open for food at Ponterwyd?
I remember it from a WRT and it's on Google Earth but it doesn't show up on the Premier Stores website?

Petrol station's still there John, I'm not sure of the opening hours or whether it's still BP but it's usually open whenever I pass by.

Cheers Stuart
My first draft without look at anyone else's ideas is
Day 1
Distance: 58.5 miles
Climbing: 7,462 feet
Stop on a bothy
Day 2
Distance: 44.5 miles
Climbing: 4,825 feet
All but 4 points ridden past and more tarmac than I'd like, but it is January and I think it avoids the tussocks.

Is there a good online tool for inputting grid refs onto OS maps?
I can't find the paper maps I have.

Can we have a double count just below Darowen? There are 2 fords marked on the map!
Update:
Thanks to @MattPage I've been looking up the grid references with
http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm much the easiest way to translate a GR onto an OS map and Google Satellite image that I've seen so far. Turns out quite a few of the GR's are doubles or even a triple.
Now I'm wondering which is the deepest/widest. Looks like the first listed for the Explorer 213 map to me.

Using this
http://wtp2.appspot.com/wheresthepath.htm
and searching SH 830012
I can only see 1 hidden in the trees.
I'm planning this as my 2nd grid ref

Zoom in the map side fully and there are 2 Ford's marked. One above the other.

SN 784892 can be deep. In the summer it is rideable.
There is a bridleway at Cemmaes road that crosses the Dyfi. I don't think there is a footbridge, but there is a road bridge a little further down.

Anyone planning on stopping over on the Friday night to save the drive in the morning and risk a late start?
Any suggestions on dry, warm, cheap or free places nearby?
Is there a pub with a beer garden near the start please?
edit - is this place any good?

I'll be dossing somewhere the night before, looks like Gairy is having a lift also.
Haven't planned exactly where but i've got a couple of ideas.
