I had to move front light and Garmin 800 out front mounting, but like the new positions anyway
I run my Garmin Etrex to the left of the stem on a short extender - mainly to keep it out of the way in the event of a crash
Although you like the new position, could you have your mount positioned in the same way, effectively pointing towards you, on the right of the stem?
Alternatively, mount in on top of the stem itself, with a different adaptor?
CRASH! What crash? Nobody said anything about a crash!

Yeah I could put it in other places (I have the stem mount) but this is nicely in my sightline and with a tilt so the water runs off. Great for on road use. Yet another thing to change for off road use. Sigh!

I haven't got a lot of length left on the wire for the front light. So I could go for a much lower mount on the fork but on road this is a great position, it shines nicely inside cars so I can see the driver and check they are looking at me ;-)

I'll be doing the bike strip and convert on boxing day or the day after so I'll have a rethink then. This bikepacking suddenly sounds scary. Maybe when I lent my unicycle to a friend I shouldn't have lent out all my pads with it!

:-)

Edelux II light, right? The reflector is designed to work at fork crown height for best beam pattern. It'll work anywhere of course but it does seem to give a more even and long beam reach when mounted lower, less of the 'bright rectangle surrounded by flood' sort of pattern. On tarmac you can see the uniformity clearly but off-road I've angled mine differently and not seen as much change.

In the past I've not been able to mount it at fork crown due to front rack in the way. Worked well mounted to front side of front rack http://store.velo-orange.com/index.php/ ... aleur.html

However, have found I get more space from drivers with a higher mount and it is well clear of any wildcat bags.
