So, is the answer actually Carnedd Llewelyn?
No
Imagine that if Paul were heading in roughly the direction of the mountain range containing Carnedd Llewelyn, what mountains would be behind him and in particular which very famous mountain?

Why is Tryfan more famous than the second highest summit in Wales named after a former King?

Its not all about the height
Mallory and Irvine trained through winters on Tryfan prior to Everest, its also got an iconic shape.
We had an unplanned bivi on Tryfan at around 700m last year, turned out rather well!

Sorry, poorly phrased question. I meant what makes Tryfan "very famous", as opposed to any other of the 3000' summits in North Wales, of which Carnedd Llewelyn is but one.

I suppose for most people (me included) there's something quite iconic about Tryfan ... it looks like a 'proper mountain' and very imposing viewed from the north. I atually think the most overrated mountain is the highest
As Griffdowg says it's not all about the height. Perhaps a little oddly I make a point of never going fully to the summit of any mountain (if I have the choice, I'll stay 10m or so below) just so I don't lose sight of the real reason I'm there ... like I say, perhaps a little odd.
