I read this yesterday and thought I'd try a sample on one of my local rides...

East side of Winter Hill, it's about a mile up and a bit under 600 ft ascent
it is a bit technical now with ruts to negotiate, loose pebbles in some sections which are difficult to avoid...

I got to the start just before 12pm, and the first ascent was (as usual) hard, including 4 dabs (it used to be dab free but rain and weather make it nearly impossible now), granny ring all the way and lowest gear considering I was going to repeat it a few times...turned round at the top (after about 20 mins,) and down for another go..

Note - no intention of doing an 'Everest' - just to see how a few reps would feel.

2nd ascent seemed easier, only 2 dabs (and one of those could have been avoided), got to the top, and was very hungry so ate what bit of flapjack I had in the bag, and down again...

After 5 ascents I needed food so didn't go down, I went home instead...(then it started pouring down)..

Right ! I can ride all day and not feel my leg muscles... but today I definitely could feel my legs, and I'm tired... total ascent was 2900 feet

So Everesting should be taken with a pinch of salt ! When you can coast uphill without any technical stuff, maybe on smooth gravel or road, even in middle ring, it doesn't compare with eyeballs out stuff, where you go into debt, have to fight your way up, meticulously use any easier ground to get a recovery..

Perhaps we need another category !

To do an Everest on this would need about 48 ascents !

44 for me today on Mam Tor.

My 2p pick something that is easy to ride up, and quick to get back down. I'd still be riding if I'd picked that Chew Reser path

Doffs cap.

I've concluded that trying to do this off road would be some undertaking.

Nice work!

I've got my eye on a local climb - all I need now is the legs!

Thanks Gents.

I'll do a bit of a write up next week, including, what I think might make a good hill.

Brilliant, mental but brilliant. I'm glad you did this so we don't have to.

The ascents were for now just a way back to the top of the race.
I always feel like that.

Doff my hat too

Congrats Rich, Well done.

Sorry for not getting back about food eaten on the day, I missed your request when I last looked.
However, it looks like you managed it without too much drama despite those tyres which must have been tough to climb with?

had to laugh at that DOMS message from the hell's 500 boys. was grand the day after but very stiff the day after that.. well timed message.

the pics and blog are great too, it looks like a nice climb.

Cheers guys. :)

The tyres were fine, it's a rough road in places.

Yep, my legs are still feeling it.

Out of curiosity (and moderate terror at the thoughts of attempting/completing the BB200) which did you think was tougher the BB200 or everesting?

I had secondary motive for everesting as a decent training ride/ fitness test for BB200 if nothing else. I suspect last year's BB200 was tougher than an everesting and based on chat here this year's BB200 route is tougher again... cripes.

I've not done the BB200, so couldn't comment. I've done the Lakeland 200, and would say that was harder than Everesting because of the rough ground it covers.

I reckon though if you can do an everest ride you'll be fine on the either though.

I reckon depends on strengths and weakness', it's easy to pull out of an everesting attempt, not so much the BB200. Personally I reckon I'd crumble easier on an Everesting attempt and mentally it'll be tougher...

It's not just the number of laps, remember to work out how long it will take. I calculated 29 accents which would take me 25-30 mins each time. that's 12 hours, descents and eating resting not included.
