SJS are good for shimano spares - the ones I have are from M525 hubs but if I get the wrong one from the box it may confuse things, tricky w/o the wheel in front of me.

On the bottom brackets is there a longer and shorter side.
ie one side for crank and one for just the pedal?
just wondering if I have mine in the wrong way round and thats why the gears don't work properly?

Cant get the bottom front gear and the chain rubs on front derailleur when in lowest and highest rear gears.
sems like the front cranks are a few mm close to the frame.
ie I need a bigger BB or it needs swapped around.

No ... it only fits one way.

However, you can buy BB with different length axles, the MTB norm is usually 113mm measured end to end. You may find an hour spent 'fine tuning' the front mech' both in terms of the limit screws and it's actual position may cure your troubles.

I have tried everything and it still wont go on the bottom cog.
I think I need a longer lenght one.
will have to pull this one off and measure it.

Also meant to add that it always over shoots the top cog too.
so im stuck in the middle gear.
not a big problem except for long flats where I could do with a bigger gear and in long hills when I need the bottom gear.

You should be able to adjust that out with your H limit screw.

What kind of bottom bracket is it?

One of these

Or one of these

If its the first then you've probably have a few spacers between the BB and the frame. Move one of those spacers from the non-drive side over to the drive side and that will push the cranks over my 1mm.

That should help with the mech issues

Its the second type of bracket.
I have tried adjusting the H screw but it still goes over the top.
Its got to be the lenght of the BB thats wrong.
Was hoping for a easy fix........never mind.
will have to pay the LBC to have a look for me.

I have managed to fettle it enough to stop it jumping off the top ring.
Did 23 miles yesterday mostly using it, cant believe how much fast you can go lol
But i still cant get it to drop to the bottom ring, its definitely too close to the frame.

Looks like a new BB is in my future.
