Me and Stu ride at a steady pace, so about 5-6 hours of riding/pushing/bog snorkling
From Rhayader it would be a case of following the reservoirs up the old rail track to the top dam and then somehow finding a route to the Bothy. From what i've read its abit boggy that side and theres no 'path' to the bothy so you would have to find an off piste route.
Thanks Chew, i should be ok with that distance at that pace, although i might be hanging on a bit towards the end of the return journey!
Will also try to check out the route from Rhayader as a back-up..

Okay then what time suits for kick-off? Late morning?
I'll email you some directions for the start over Jase.
You still tempted Wench?
Oh and we're now armed with 'magic logs' too

Right I'm in but 40 miles both ways with me at the moment just wouldn't be fair so I'll tag into you later on.
May park up at Nant and pedal in from there. Use the route down to Devils Bridge from this years WRT
Down past Nant Rhys that way over the Dam and then up a bridleway (more than likely just a bog)
Are you going to be coming over to Nant way from yours? (or skipping it and coming through Hafren?)
Either way I may just tag and half the distance

Also if that works I could pick up some logs in Mach then at least your not carrying them all the way there.
Sure you'll find a use for the ones you have

It would be good to get there before dark, so 10-11ish depending on what route you have in mind?

I can devise a shorter route if you fancy coming with us from the start Matt - Down to Llangurig, then BW onto the Cwmystwyth road to Pont Elan, then a short death march to the bothy ... should actually be an easier route than Nant > Devils Bridge > Death march.

That works for me if it's good for everyone else.

You can't ruin type 2 fun ... you can only add to it

I'm easy either way and its going to be an adventure getting to the bothy....
At SN914715 it looks like you can cut across and follow the sheep tracks across the side of the hill, dropping down towards the Bothy near the end. About a 100m drop gravity assisted there, maybe a bit more interesting getting back
No Tent/Bivi so there will be a whole frame bag to cram full of logs
(also noticed Forest Freeride is on goolemaps now)

I had thought that the track shown on the map ending at SN903712 might continue round the reservoir to Pont Elan ... either way we'll get there

Good plan, give me an ETA and I'll make sure I'm all faffed out by the time you land.
Also if you want to leave logs somewhere I can pick,em up on way through or just get some in Mach

Actually, we've been on google maps for ages, pity they have us in the wrong place
I've tried amending it but to no avail
We have detailed directions if anyone needs them :)

That on the end of that lane that comes over the back with gates on and the odd bench for sit down?

I assume your talking as if coming from Rhayader end? If so, then yes, the carpark's on the right about 300yds from the the junction with the main road / post office.
